Can I re-download purchased music in lossless format?
I have purchased several albums on iTunes in the last few months, and am wondering if the quality of purchased songs are now in lossless format. If so, is there a way to re-download purchased songs in the new lossless format?
Or is the lossless format only related to importing music from cds?
Thanks,
Peter

No, still 128Kbps AAC format

Yes, right now it really only applies to ripping music from your CD's.

thats a good idea. if your paying for music you really should be able to get it in better quality than 128 aac

Real Networks has their audio store, and for $.99 a track (like iTunes) you get 192 Kbps encoded AACs. Try them! Unfortunately, they've gotta be burned to CD in order to be imported. Good Luck.

I don't think anyone here 'insulted' 128 AAC. There was just a question about lossless on the store and a comment about 128 for $.99.
I don't expect to see lossless on the store anytime soon. Im assuming that one of the reasons the record companies are trying this is because its not full quality.

I think 128 kbps AAC files sound great myself. However, I don't like the idea of buying compressed music. I still prefer buying the actual audio CDs from online stores such as Amazon and CD Universe or local stores.
You probably won't see lossless distributed on the iTunes Music Store because Apple wants to sell files that people can fit a lot of on iPods. 128 kbps AAC files fit on iPods nicely, lossless files do not. Also some people are still on dial-up connections and downloading lossless audio files is out of the question for them thus that would shut out potential customers from the iTunes Music Store.
For me, 128 kbps AAC does the job great. However, I like having the original CD quality sources incase sometime in the future I want higher quality for some reason.
