Play Count, Artist Count, Album Count ?

Is there anyway to get your most played artist and see the total number of play counts for all the tracks under that artist?

Or the same for the album, see how many times tracks from that album have been played?

Also, anybody know of a good database program that lets you look at all your music is one go??

Click on your Library and make sure you're in Browse mode. Chose an artist and/or album. All of the songs will list below. You should then see the columns of info, including play count. If not, go to Edit > View Options and check as many boxes as you'd like.

Okay, the only thing I know of is this site which will give you at least some of your answers. You may want to contact the site's creator for more info.

http://www.musicmobs.com

You sign up and upload your iTunes xml file. It will then show you your most played artists with a count number. It doesn't have top album.

Here's my profile as an example:

Maybe someone else here knows of some iTunes xml analysis tools that you can run on your machine directly.

Well, iTunes is a database program. The problem is, their Smartlists aren't sophisticated enough to get you what you want.

You could check out JRiver's Media Center. They invented smartlists and they are much more robust.

Smartlists really are nothing more than queries off of your library (the database).

Do you just want to see information, or actually generate playlists?

I am going to start work soon on an advanced database generator to make "smart" playlists, but they won't dynamically update by themselves.

I analyze the iTunes Database by simply selecting all songs in iTunes, doing a Copy (CTRL-C), then pasting the result in Excel.

A simple thing I do is sort then by descending play count. That makes it easy to determine how many of my 6500+ songs I've actually listened to, and how many songs have been played by the iPod.

For a more detailed analysis, it's a simple matter to produce a PivotTable that will give you pretty much everything you want.

Wow, I didnt relize that copying the iTunes list would paste exactly the same in excel. Now I know that, im gonna make a basic Access database were people simply add there own excell data file.

It would be a simple as making sure the person only has the required fields in iTunes open eg Artists and Album and then they copy it into excell and put it in the program.

Would there be any demand for this... feedback please...

The program would show you a report of....

All Albums under an Artist
All Artists
Most Played Song
Most Played Album [album with most total playcounts]
Most Played Artist [artist with most total playcounts]

Anyone particually good at Access out there?? Im a bit rusty as I have not used it in a while...

i would be WAY into something like that... i know NOTHING about access though, so i guess i'd be a total leech :)

do you work in mac or pc (bats eye lashes)

heh heh

oooh i see from your tag you're in windows - i have ideas about how you might be able to sync the song data (not the songs mind you but specifically play counts) on two pcs with the ipod... i just need to find a programmer who's into it and can help flesh it out and oh i don't know - program it :)
