iTunes rejection

Hi. I'm having a problem with iTunes and plugging the iPod in. When i plug in my iPod a message comes up saying iTunes does not recognise the iPod and i need to reinstall iTunes. I've done this three times including actually uninstalling the lot and then reinstalling it. What's going on?

Odd.

Apparently it's not iTunes' problem. Have you done a full "Restore" on the iPod's firmware?

Use the latest updater (iPod Updater 04-28-2004), and use the Restore feature, not Update. (This will wipe out the iPod completely, but may solve the issue).

Well yeah every time i reinstall itune it wipes my ipod anyway. I've leart just to stop that by pressing cancel because it shouldn't need to configure it again. Shall i just update the ipod and itunes and hope that sorts it?

I'm still getting the message up. It only happens when i don't plug in my ipod for a while. I might try and download the updater software and see what happens. Update this meassage when i have.

I resolved this by doing the following:

Uninstall Quick Time and Itunes
Reinstall Itunes (which installs a version of Quick Time too.

I put the issue down to installing a later version of Quick Time when I updated my AOL account.

...well it worked...

I've been having the same problems, and I tried to follow everyone's advice, but the error message about needing to "reinstall itunes" still keeps popping up. I've removed and downloaded itunes many, many times. I think all this occurred after I downloaded itunes 4.5. Also, I've downloaded the new ipod updater 2004-04-28, but there is also a message saying "ipod service error." itunes just can't recognize my ipod anymore. This is really frustrating. I would appreciate any help at all! Thanks in advance!

I resolved this by doing the following:

Uninstall Quick Time and Itunes
Reinstall Itunes (which also installs a version of Quick Time with it)

I put the issue down to installing a later version of Quick Time when I updated my AOL account. The later version appeared to be incompatible with the Itunes software

...well it worked...
