iTunes Sound Quality Issue
Good day all ... I'm having an issue with the sound quality in iTunes, and was wondering if anyone has or is experiencing the same thing. I recently upgraded to 4.5, and it was working normally for a few days, but yesterday I noticed that there was a lot of distortion and/or hiss being heard along with the file(s) and/or CD's. I get this using the built-in sound-card, or using my 'echo indigo' sound card. I am using XP, so I have tried system restore, but cannot seem to restore to a point that will resolve the issue. I have also tried uninstalling iTunes, and doing a clean install a couple of times. The last thing I tried was to go back to iTunes 4.2, but the issue is still there. I've searched the forum for similar issues, but have not found a solution. One post suggested changing the wavout in quicktime to the preferred sound card, but I am not finding where this can be done. I am just curious if anyone else is experiencing this. I should note that I have a number of sound apps on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 8100), and do NOT have this issue with any of the other apps.
I would prefer to use iTunes if I can, but this is quite the obstacle.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers~
Peter

Go to Start-->Control Panel-->Quicktime.
Under "Sound Out," try and switch between DirectSound and waveOut (and any other options that may be there) to see if you get any different results.

Jerrod ... thanks so much. I believe this took care of the problem. I never realized that there was a drop-down menu in Quicktime to make such adjustments. We learn sumpin' new every day. Thanks for taking the time to reply ... I appreciate it.
Cheers!

Hi Jerrod,
I seem to have the same problem as Peter with iTunes 4.5 running on Win XP Pro on a new HP laptop. Was working fine then sound quality became terrible. Have reinstalled several times without success. I have tried the Quicktime fix without success - please could you post a detailed workthrough ? Many thanks for your help.
