iPod not recognized in new iTunes

I downloaded the newest version of iTunes, I believe it's 4.5. Not sure, anyway, tried to hook up my ipod to put more songs on it and it (ipod) won't show up in iTunes. Do I need to do something? Help. I am using XP. Thanks folks!

Did you update the iPod to the new firmware, 2.2? If not you have too otherwise the iPod won't work with iTunes 4.5.

Thanks I tried this and additionally I uninstalled Quick Time (which had been updated when adding on an AOL account)

Uninstall Quick Time and Itunes
Reinstall Itunes
Job Done!

...well it worked for me....
