Clarification on how iTunes works
I currently have a laptop which i connect my iPod to. On laptop i have all the 35 odd Gb of music that i have on my iPod.
When I get new songs i load up iTune and import them in. Then when I connect my iPod it syncs and loads them up onto it.
No am I right in thinking that if i delete half the songs from the laptop then it will replicate this onto the iPod and delete them there too?
Is there only way to avoid this to use something like EphPod?

If you turn off auto-sync in iTunes, you can delete on the computer only. But then you lose the auto-sync of ratings, play counts, playlist updates, etc.
Just a warning, but if you plan on keeping music only on the iPod, know that you could lose that music at any times. iPods are not the best storage devices. They sometimes need to be wiped when they exhibit weird behavior. I've read many stories of people losing gigs of stuff because they only had it on the iPod.
If you are removing music from your computer, at least make a back-up first. External HD's, get access to a dvd burner, etc.

Yeah I would have another machine which i could back it up to so that is not a problem but I use my Laptop for everything so would be using it to sync etc.
Is there an easy way of saying don't delete anything but sync anything that comes in new?

no, that would be an enabler for piracy unfortunatly since you could connect to a new library entitrely.

I have all of my tunes on an external harddrive and only a few on my laptop. I was not sure if I would like this arrangement, but it works fabulously, and it frees up a ton of space!

Yeah. You don't have to keep everything on your computer. There is something in the How To section (I believe) that explains how to keep it on the iPod and not on the hard drive. Best of luck!
