Camping trip question
I am going away on a camping trip for a whole week shortly, well in July to be precise. I want to give time before to get some information together. Me and my friends are going to be relying on my 15GB 3G iPod for music for the entire week. I already have enough music for the week, and we also have the method of playing it out loud with prestine quality. We also have power sorted out for it. All sorted. But i want to know is there anything I can do, to protect my iPod from the great outdoors? I currently have exo2 iSkin with the screen protector in effect. Is there anything else I may need? And is there any other information I should know or do, to make sure my iPod stays the same great thing that it is while in the wild? All help appreciated!!

Just don't put your iPod under direct sunlight, and don't let it get wet. Plus, don't let a bear near it! ;)
# 2 Re: Camping trip question
OK thanks, is there any other tips or hints anybody else has encounted, and does cold have any direct impact on it?
# 3 Re: Camping trip question
Check out the manual or the box for the iPod's operating temperatures. I'm not sure about the exact figures, but as long as it's not under direct heat or under freezing temp, it'll do well.

On my camping trips there tends to be a fair amount of alcohol consumption.....I would suggest getting your ipod its own tent...that's too far...wait...I don't know about merry ol' England, but if there's dust/dirt/alcohol/ around, like most camping trips in NW USA, maybe put a ziploc bag around it?" I'd feel safer.

Only thing I'd add is to PLEASE be considerate of other folks out camping. If you're backcountry camping, most others out in the wilderness DO NOT share your appreciation of music and will likely find it intrusive and annoying -- and sound can often carry much further than you might expect.
Please don't take this the wrong way; I mean only to remind folks to be considerate of others in the Great Outdoors.

It's on private land, there is a group of us going to this one place, no-body else will be within a 1/2 mile radius.
# 7 Re: Camping trip question
Don't let friends play with it in the dark unless you reaaaaaly trust them. All it takes is for one person to set it down and another to step on it.

Or sit on it! :D
# 9 Re: Camping trip question
Yeah, although you can't reset an iPod without realy trying, a friend reset mine the other day by accident...
Now I make sure they know what not to do.
# 10 Re: Camping trip question
No problem if it's reset, it's just like rebooting the thing. But if it's sat or stepped on, now that's a big bummer! ;)
# 11 Re: Camping trip question
Mmm, i suggest a zip-lock bag at very least, in-case the weather gets wet, and let's be honest, it IS England! :D
Other than that...just be really *REALLY* careful!
Maybe some Matias iPod Armour?

Not much chance of that if he is camping in the UK - last wild bears became extinct in the UK around about the 10th or 11th century. ;)

# 14 Re: Camping trip question
damn those bear baiters... actually that looked sorta fun, torturing large animals for personal enjoyment... ah the good ol' days of animal cruelty. But anyways check out this for weather/water protection, probably keeps dust away pretty well too http://www.otterbox.com/product.cfm?product=168&code=NA
it was on the front page a couple days back looks perfect for camping, keeps the alcohol away as well.

how are you planning to keep the iPod powered for an entire week?
i guess if youre just camping and not backpacking you could simply charge it in your car.
if you're backpacking for an entire week, i would really like to know how you're keeping it powered!
i assume you would use a belkin pack or other sort of possibly home-made external power source

Car charger from Monster, as is the Monster sound cable for playing it out loud.
# 17 Re: Camping trip question
Put some silica-gel packets in the baggie to soak up any moisture from the UK air.
