This can be fixed by reseting your iPod.

On a mac go to the Applications folder, inside that folder open the utilities folder and find the iPod software folder.

There will probably be a few with that title. Select the highest numbered one possible. Open the application in the folder.

You should be able to take it from there.

I have the same problem. The folder holds the updates. Is that what you are refering to? Does restting erase everything? Thanks.

Open the program. Once open you'll have to click on the lock and enter the administrator or main users password. The main user is usually the person that created their account first.

Once you connect your iPod click restore. This will erase EVERYTHING. Songs, contacts, the pics of the 3-way you had last night. EVERYTHING.

If you look around there has to be something that will save your songs, contacts, whatever. I've done it, but am too lazy to write down all the steps.

Once your iPod is restored it will work just fine.

While it never happened to my gen 1, I found that after I did the software restore it worked fine. I had the box to send it back and everything, but decided not to because it seemed to be working fine.

However, if you don't feel confident, I'd recommned you just send it in or take it to an Apple store.

Just don't buy anything the greedy #######s work on commission and would sell sand to someone who lives in the desert.

I'm having the same problem on my 20Gb 3G iPOD.... Exact same situation, put it on hold, and leave it... and then it will mysteriously turn itself on...
I run it on WinXP Home Edition.
Any suggestions would be welcome, preferably so I don't loose my tunes...
