Who got Leopard?
I did. I bought it last night after waiting in the line at my apple store for a half hour. My mom and I got the free tshirts, bought it and then walked out. After that we went to my sister's dorm who doesn't have a mac so now I have to wait til tomorrow to install it at home. I can't wait.
# 1 Re: Who got Leopard?
Went early expecting a line but there was probably 5 people waiting outside.
They let us in the store (it closes at 4:30 normally) and let us grab a copy but not buy it until 6 and then at 6 I paid and left.
I'm digging it all the way so far.

I bought it last night. Got the t-shirt. Installed it on 3 of the 4 eligible Macs in my house with no problems.

Has anyone tried Leopard on a PowerPC G4 yet?
I'm wondering how well my 1.42GHz G4 iBook with 1GB of RAM will handle the extra features and eye candy.

There was an article about a 688Ghz Powerbook with 768 megs of RAM that said it was not too bad. Coverflow was choppy. That's pretty much all the relevant info. Booting to the login took 10 seconds more than Tiger, and shutting down took 2 seconds more. They said more RAM would help, but they also said that if you need to buy Leopard and iLife, perhaps the 200 bucks would be better spent on a new Mac. Installation also took double the time that it did on their MacBook, I'm unsure of its specs.

We had a launch party at CompUSA since we don't have an Apple Store (yet). About 70 people were there at 6:00. :D

#300 in line at Somerset Mall. Me and my two buddies got our Family Pack, T-Shirts, and headed on home. We then had an install party at our Dorm.

Works all-right on my 1Ghz iBook G4. Not all of the eye candy works though. The transparent menu-bar doesn't work, but otherwise the machine seems to run fine.

Clover Flow can get choppy on Tiger when I first start iTunes, it does get better once everything has loaded. I may still wait since I am looking at a new MacBook Pro early next year. I still like to run all the eye candy even if it takes more resources.

Probably a stupid question but is that the family pack or just the normal?
Another thing is if you buy a mac at the store with the leopard drop in disc can you use it on more than one computer?
# 10 Re: Who got Leopard?
my upgrade is coming by the 29th

I'm not 100% certain, but I think that it may be specific to the model as far as drivers and such go, but Apple doesn't have product activation, so I don't see why not.

The article was referring to Cover Flow in Finder, not in iTunes.

I bought the family pack but the single would have worked the same. There are no licenses or serial numbers to enter so the disc is never going to matter. The over the counter version of 10.5 will work on all eligible Macs. The machine specific discs come with the individual machines.

I picked up a copy on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, I was out of town on Friday night so I missed the big event.

The disks Apple ships with machines are usually tied to that specific machine. However, sometimes they seem to work with other machines as well. It's a bit hit and miss. There's no serial numbers, etc, to worry about. So if you can get it to install, then you shouldn't have a problem.
# 15 Re: Who got Leopard?
I bought my copy today and it runs nicely on my MacBook with 2GB of memory. :) Loving the new unified interface and all of the subtle touches :)

I will be waiting a few months for the kinks, but I'm pretty excited to experience it.

Surprisingly there really don't seem to be any. Some folks don't like the fact that any folder put in the dock becomes a stack but otherwise I've not seen much of a problem.

There are with front row, you probably don't use it because of your chuck norris-powered g5 but my front row really sucks right now. There's this wierd border of whatever album art that is playing that flashes in spastic patterns.
# 19 Re: Who got Leopard?
To be honest, I've never even used Front Row...
Oh, and for those of you who don't like the 3D Dock, open the Terminal and type this:
defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES; killall Dock
change YES to NO to restore the 3D dock.

# 21 Re: Who got Leopard?
I've got it, and some thoughts:
On the whole, I like it.
Time machine is INSANELY good. I have it hooked up to a 500 gb external and am LOVING it. Seriosuly, the best new feature
Spotlight is even faster than before
Front Row is faster and better
Stacks... Don't work in practice. Good idea, but just are more annoying than they're worth.
Also, they KILL being able to quickly see what folders are what in the dock. If you have a music, photo, video, and apps folder in your dock, they are now stacks. This is very anoying.
The unified look is good
Repair permissions now takes about 20 minutes, vs 3.
I changed my dock to the 'dark dock,' looks way better.
on the whole, a good upgrade.
# 22 Re: Who got Leopard?
I have my apps folder as a stack and that basically makes stacks amazing for me.
This way I can have all my apps on my dock without it being ridiculously long.

True, but for me, Spotlight is WAYYYY faster than any stack.
# 24 Re: Who got Leopard?
I'm undecided about the 3D dock effect. The loss of the black triangle from previous versions is a shame - the small blue blob is hard to see. I had read that moving the dock to the left or right also disables the 3D effect. Wonder if there will be an option to turn off this in future updates?
Meanwhile I may use that 'hack'...

If you mean turning off the switch to 2D when moving the dock to the side, it just doesn't make any sense physically. It's 3D and is a table. When you put a table on its side, it just dumps whatever is on top, so putting a dock on the side would have weird gravity issues. Of course, nothing says that the computer has to make sense physically, but I think we would just see it and think there was something wrong with it.
# 26 Re: Who got Leopard?
Maybe I was not clear - choosing to have the dock on the left or right side gives the dock the appearance of the pre Leopard docks.
The mirror effect is removed which means the 'active' flag is a lot easier to view.

# 27 Re: Who got Leopard?
So do you want to change the way it appears on the side, and make it like the current look, or do you want to change the current look to one with an easier-to-see indicator?
# 28 Re: Who got Leopard?
I have the Dock on the bottom of my screen and, as I said, at the moment I am not sure if I want to change it. If I do then it will be to disable the 3D effect (as explained by baggss above). It would be nice to have the option of turning it off just by selecting/de-selecting a button in the Dock preferences rather than having to venture into Terminaland...
