Not have certain songs play in shuffle mode
Is there a way to not have certain songs play in shuffle mode? I know you can tag songs to "skip when shuffling," but that only seems to work in iTunes. When I put the songs on my iPod it still plays the songs, unless maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Alternatively, can I create a playlist of just the songs I want to shuffle and have them automatically shuffle. Right now I have to go into to settings and toggle shuffle on and off. I mostly use shuffling when I play my iPod over my FM transmitter in my car and its a major pain in the rear to realize that I forgot to turn on shuffle while I'm driving.

Having skip while shuffling checked should prevent the song from every being played in any shuffle mode, on the iPod and in iTunes.
What method of transfer to the iPod do you use, automatic or manual? this may explain why it doesn't transfer over.
You can not set an individual playlist to automatically shuffle. You have to turn on the option in the settings. Of course the new iPods make this much easier than previous versions.

I automatically sync my iPod to iTunes. Does that make a difference?
I guess its something I'm doing wrong. I'll try again.

If you are automatically syncing the changes should go over...
There is a small chance that simply changing this tag does not prompt the iPod to want update the song file on the iPod. You might need to change something else in the file to get the iPod to want to update the song. I.e., change the genre to something else then back.

If that doesn't do it ...
What version of iTunes and which iPod model are you using? There was a time when "Skip when shuffling" only applied to the "Shuffle Songs" selection from the iPod main menu.
