Cheapest method for HD repair

My 5G iPod is on its way out apparently, the HD will start an infinite clicking loop and the iPod will crash. It will happen at the same point in some songs or when loading new music to the iPod and it's been getting more and more apparent and annoying...

Rather than getting a new iPod, I was wondering what the cheapest method of repair is? On eBay I see a few drives but they're way too expensive. The cheapest I've found is $77 through ewiz.com but even that's a bit salty for my tastes.

Anybody have an otherwise broken iPod with a working HD they'd spare me? ;)

Also how easy is this software wise? I'm confident I can swap the drives out easily, but I'm hoping there's no software issues (will the iPod boot the blank drive?).

Thanks for any help.

Oh, another thing, if I were able to find a larger yet similarly sized HD (say, the new one from the iPod classic that's 80gigs) would it work or be recognized by my 5G iPod?
