Sound only coming through one ear

I have had this problem for awhile but I've been too lazy to get help. I have a 5G 30 gig and sound only comes through one ear unless I press down hard on the top of the plug. I've tried like 5 other pairs of headphones so I'm pretty sure its an iPod problem. Since the new iPods were released today I was thinking of just fixing this one and giving it to my mom and buying a classic. But either way I want it fixed. Any help?

The problem you are experiencing lies in a problem within the headphone jack itself. After long term usage, or frequent plugging/unplugging of headphones, the contacts within the jack wear out, and sound becomes monaural.Typically, from my understanding, the jack needs to be replaced in order to rectify the problem. It's not just iPods that experience it... I've had it happen on CD players, tape players, my iRiver, and my wife's Zune before we replaced it.

However, if it's out of its warrantee period it would probably still be better paying Apple - and it would probably be a little more expensive than a 3rd pary... but then again Apple made the iPod so they know what they are doing... You get what you pay for.

iresq.com is a reputable repair company with good pricing and quick turn arounds. They will be considerably cheaper than apple repair and I find them having good business practices. I have had them repair my iBook in the past.studogvetmed at 2007-11-15 15:00:54 >
