A techy question about Micro Speakers

I have just recently purchased my ipod touch and I love it,
But I do like to sometimes use speakers instead of the earbuds when watching video etc,
I have been using the Macally IP-A111 which is a tiny, portable, battery-operated stereo speaker unit that just plugs in and sits on the bottom of my touch,
The sound on the Macally IP-A111 is quite poor not very loud and I'm sure that someone could do a better job and I was thinking the way to achieve this would be to use the sort of speaker that mobile phones use to play ring tones & MP3's i.e. the tiny speaker in the back of my Sony Erricson phone is way louder than the 2 speakers in the Macally IP-A111 which are allot bigger,

So my question is does anyone know if it would be possible to build...

A small unit that snaps on to the bottom of the ipod touch,
Could also plug into the dock connector for stability,
With 1 or 2 mobile phone type micro speaker drivers,
With a tiny amplifier etc,
For power it could use 1 or 2 AAA batteries,
And maybe a hardware volume switch,

Sorry above is asking allot and would be the ideal unit but I just want to know if the idea is possible?

Thanks in advance.
