iTunes wont import folder.

I had a computer hard drive crash a while back and lost all of my MP3's, but they were still on my iPod. Thanks to this site, I figured out how to get them from my iPod back to my computer. Now, I have to import them into iTunes. I have over 1,000 songs that I salvaged off my iPod. When I try to "add folder to library", nothing happens. I can add each one, one at a time, but that will take days. What's up with iTunes that I can't add a folder? Thanks for any advice!
Matt

You could select all the files in Windows Explorer drag them and drop them onto iTunes Library to import them all. Should take only a few minutes.

I tried that too. I finally deleted iTunes, and reinstalled an older version that came with my 30gig. I was able to upload anything I wanted to iTunes. But my wife has one of the new nano's and it needs the latest version of iTunes to run. So now, I'm back to not being able to get stuff into iTunes.

Just to be sure...you want to use "Add to Library...", not "Import...". Import does just one file at a time (and no folders), while Add to Library does beaucoup files/folders. (Import is really meant for "importing" playlists, not for adding files to the iTunes index.)

That's what I meant. I have tried "Add to Library" and "import". Neither one works.

I just used Add Folder to Library, it worked just fine.

I've always been able to 'add folder to library' successfully, but when it come time for my son to try to retrieve his music from his ipod using this method, it wouldn't add the folder either. He had to add each file one by one, as you've found, except for his purchased music.

I didn't try too hard to work it out for him, as I viewed it as punishment for not backing up his music. ;)

I'm not sure why it wouldn't add the folder in one go as I've been able to do previously.

Anyway, just thought I'd share so you know you're not the only one, but back up next time as it's much easier to add to itunes from a backup versus from your ipod.
