"iTunes music folder location" issue. please help!

Hey guys

I got a real bad with my music collection and my iTunes library and if you guys can help me out, it would be much appreciated.

Ok so all my music that I have is on the slave drive for my computer, like so...

E:\music\artist_name\their_album\

When I go to 'edit'>'preferences'>'Advanced'>'general' tab on my itunes (which i have the latest version of, 7.4.2.4), i see this...
iTunes music folder location
C:\Documents and Settings\franky\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music

and I got the

"keep iTunes music folder organized" and "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library", i have both of them unchecked.

Now I base all my music off the E:\ slave drive. Meaning when i get a new album, I add into into the slave drive under the proper artist, I then add it into iTunes. Most of the time, its not going to show the real information/proper information for the artist so I can this by hand (I'm really anal about how my iTunes and iPod shows music).

If I put a Jay-Z album in my iTunes and it first shows like so...

jAy--Z : bLack_album (the) : Track 1

I would change it to this

Jay-Z : The Black Album : Interlude

Now I think I might be doing this setup the wrong way. If so, what is the best and easiest way I should be doing it?

Keep in mind that I got about 7 out of my 15 gigs of music already on my iTunes from the E:\ slave drive. I always add more music and organize it the best I can when I get free time. The other reason why I do it like so is that when I add the music on my iPod, it keep out really nice and neat like how i like it.

I feel like if I change the location for this... "iTunes music folder location". It might mess up my current iTunes library since I have already added so much music from the Slave drive and I have had to do a lot of manually renaming.

Please help me out.
Thanks in advance.

Here's what I'd do:

I'd create a base folder on the slave drive, i.e. E:iTunes Files, E:Music, or whatever you want to name it. This is where your iTunes files will be located.

Then, go to iTunes and choose this newly created folder to use for your iTunes music folder location. None of your current files will be lost: iTunes will keep track of all current files, but will now place any future music into this new location.

Then, you want to check both of the boxes you currently have unchecked: the "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and "keep my iTunes music folder organized". This will do two things: you will be able to add a music file (or video file, or any other file iTunes accepts) to your iTunes library and iTunes will place a copy into your specified library folder. For instance, if you download "Do You Wanna Ride - Jay-Z - Kingdom Come" to your desktop, you will be able add it to iTunes, and iTunes will copy it from the desktop to it's own music folder via Artist-Album folder. So if your music folder is E:iTunes Files, the song's location will be E:iTunes Files->Jay-Z->Kingdom Come. You can then delete the copy on your desktop, because iTunes has now copied it to your slave drive for you.

This is essentially how you have your files sorted now: the good thing is that iTunes can do all of this for you automatically. You're just wasting time and causing headache by doing it manually. After you have the settings all set up to your liking as above, you can use iTunes "Consolidate Library" feature and iTunes will place all of your music in your library into the single iTunes music folder on your slave drive that you specify, and you can delete these files from their other locations. So if you have music on your main drive AND your slave drive, iTunes will copy files from both locations to the specified folder on the slave drive. Take note though, because iTunes only copies these files, you'll need room on the slave drive to accomodate all the files. You will be able to free space up when you're done by deleting the original copies. But if your library is 10 gigs, you'll need at least that much current FREE space on your slave drive.

All of your music will now be in one safe place on your slave drive, arranged by artist-> album folders, and you can add files to iTunes from anywhere on your computer and they will be moved to this location automatically. Also, you can rip CD's with iTunes and the same thing will happen: iTunes will place the music in the main folder on your slave drive uner "Artist -> Album". It's just a very easy way to manage your library, as you can pretty much do everything through iTunes.
