Playcounts Not Synching to 160G Classic

I have a Smart Playlist called "Unplayed" that holds 1000 songs with a playlist of 0, and when I sync my iPod to iTunes it removes those I've played and replaces them with others randomly. At least that's the way it worked on my 80G 5.5 Gen.

On my new 160G Classic play counts don't update when syncing, and the playlist remains the same. I'm not sure whether this is caused by the new iPod, or the iTunes update I performed prior to gettting it.

Is this a known problem? Any iideas/solutions?

This is my first post on the Forums.

And the new iPod is using auto-sync too?

Could be either. I've had some significant sync problems on the classic.

I do something similar with playlists on my iPods, but have run into several problems over the years. There could be two issues at play here. Check them out and report back.
1) is your playcount incrementing in your library? Forget the playlist, play a song on the 160 GB, sync. Then go to information on the song or view the "last played" and "play count" fields are updated. You can also try rating the song or changing the rating on the song, or skipping to the next song between 2 and 20 seconds into the track. This should increment the "skip count" All these fields are updated from the iPod. If this works, then it's your playlist.
2) Make a simple smart playlist, where the only conditions are the playcount being within a range. It could be that you've set your playcount too high in the playlist. Sync that playlist, and not a parent folder. Try playing the song (or FF to the end so it will count) twice. If you've set it to "playcount" "is" "0", then this really won't apply. Make sure this is the only condition. I've had the most problems with making it contingent upon another playlist, that is not synced to the ipod. That way, they won't drop out of the playlist until the ipod is synced once or twice, depending on the situation.

What happens if you play the song in itunes? Does it roll off your playlist, and when you sync, does it roll off that playlist? Also, if you have another ipod, see if the playcounts increment on that. If all else fails, try the 5 "R"s. This has fixed sync issues for me before. If you must restore, start out simple by only syncing a few songs so you don't waste your time by loading them all.
