Determining cumulative song size to sync to iPod

iTunes always displays the TOTAL amount of storage space all the files in my iTunes library takes up, regardless of whether the songs are checked/selected or not.

My library on my computer is much larger than the capacity of my iPod nano. In order to determine how much of the library I can squeeze onto the iPod, I have to keep deselecting songs and albums until the iPod finally determines that my selected amount to sync up will fit.

My question is simple: Is there a way in iTunes to learn how much storage space all the CHECKED/SELECTED songs take (as opposed to the library as a whole), so I can make a reasonable guess as to how much will fit on my iPod on first crack?

I've got appx. 11 gigs worth of music for a new 8 gig Nano. Given that I'll have about 7 and odd change gigs to work with, I want to figure out how to select roughly that amount of music without having to trial and error it several times.

There is probably a pathetically simple answer, but I can't find anything in documentation or help files.

Thanks!

It's quite simple:
Smart playlist one has something stupidly obvious, something like "bitrate is greater than 1 kbps" along with the "Match only checked songs" condition checked off.

There you go.
