iTunes problems...

I hate to make my first post like this but I can't get any solutions for searching the net so I thought I would ask for some help here! Here's my issue-

-I'm using Vista
-Problem started after deleting a lot of files in preparation for the Touch.
-After connecting my iPod there seemed to be some slowing down and iTunes froze completely. Nothing changed on my iPod as far as I could tell the first few times.
-After disconnecting my iPod information would show up along with error messages such as file/folder not found. Messages like these showed up almost every time but eventually went away after trying to connect a few times.
-I tried many times to sync and see if I could fix it but iTunes would freeze and do nothing until I disconnected. After a few times some info on my iPod was gone (ie: Playlists)

I thought this was just an issue with my iPod and I decided it wasn't a big deal since I was getting a touch soon. However, today I went to test an old iPod on my laptop (also running vista) for fun and iTunes froze and didn't show any info on my iPod until after I disconnected. This laptop is new and has never had an iPod connected to it aside from getting my files off of one (before iTunes was even installed). I have no idea what to do and nothing I could find on other sites helped. I'm a bit nervous to upgrade my iTunes to the latest version before fixing this issue. Anyway, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

p.s- I copied my music onto my laptop using a program, it found a few corrupted audio files and didn't copy them. I'm not sure if this could indicate a larger problem or if it's a separate issue.

Deleted them on iTunes (through iTunes) and not on my computer. Since the same thing happened on a separate computer I'm not sure if that started it, although the same files would have been added and deleted.

And by "files" you mean "songs"?
That shouldn't affect the iTunes installation at all.
I'd recommend a full uninstall/reinstall. Apple has complete instructions.
