Cases for the Ipod Touch

Im going to be getting a new ipod touch and i was wondering what you guys were getting. My old 4th generation ipod i never had much of a case for it, but i plan on keeping the itouch in as best condition as i can. I also dont want to hide it, i want it to be protcected while being viewable. I saw griffin's new iclear case, looks interesting and ive also seen posters mention a special skin u can place over the actual ipod. Does that skin leave an residue if u take it of, i read a ilounge review on it and each had seperate issues. Im leaning towards getting the iclear, also im unsure of it will work. Would i need to open the top of the caseing to use the touch screen or how does it work if anyone has an idea. Thanks!

Get the Invisible Shield. I had one on my 80GB iPod video and it's great. And no, no residue.

Will a front shield not affect the touch mechanism?

It hasn't affected the iPhone, and they've been selling the same cover for that since it came out.

Does the film not want to peel off at the edges as well?

If this product works as good as advertised, then i'm all over it.

Power Support has it's crystal film set and I have nothing but positive things to say about it. I've bought several for my 5th gen iPod, and will be doing so again for the Touch. I don't really think the film will be needed for the front if the screen is the same as the iPhone's, but the chrome back definitely needs the film.

I'll get an invisible sheild even though I could NEVER get them on correctly

Are there any actual cases available yet? What manufacturers make the best cases?

The invisible shield does indeed have a lot of good reviews. You can find it at www.shieldzone.com

However, they seem to be ridiculously priced. Though they haven't announced one yet for the touch, www.bestskinsever.com seems to offer the exact same product at a fraction of the cost. They have one for the iphone which several ilounge users have vouched for with pics.

Im going to check out the invisible shields also, for the cases, only ones available currently are the Griffin Iclear and reflect for the Ipod Touch. They also will release a leather case. Im interested in the Iclear but ide need to see how i would access the touch screen before i purchased it. The invisible shields may jus be the way to go i think if its as advertised like posters have indicated. Ide definitely want the main screen protected because i read that it does get little chips or scratches in it. I hated how my 4th generations screen got scratced also.

No, it doesn't. Follow the instructions exactly (ie, leave it to 'set' after applying) and it ain't coming off. If for some reason you experience problems with the shield that contradict what they advertise it's abilities as, get in touch with them and they'll send you a new one for free, provided you then send the old one back. I did.

It's great.

Just noticed that yes, those Best Skins Ever are WAY cheaper, even with shipping added, and seem to be the same thing. Dammit, wish I'd known about that. Oh well.

Anyway, the stuff is amazing, and it WILL protect from scratches exceptionally well while retaining the exact same form-factor and 'Ooooh!' factor that you lose when you put it in a bulky case.

I Just Pre-Ordered the Full Body Shield from shieldzone.com... The only thing is when will they ship it out... after the ipod touch is on the market or before...

It doesent say on there site or on the email they sent out confirming the order?

Also are you people who are going to use a invisible shield, are you also going to use a clear case i.e one from Contour Designs?
Thanks

U read my mind, exactly what i was thinking about doing. I read someone mention that Contour Designs case on the forums and look it up. Looks terrific, so im considering that but the shield is definite because the case wont protect the screen itself.

What are some other good brands to look at? I saw the Contours and they look terrific, (iphone version). Griffin looked nice as well.

Yea the iphone version of the case from contour Dedigns looks great... (I don't think they will make it much different to the iphone version but you never know...)

Belkin is another company i think but they havent mentioned there new line of ipod cases..

I did you order just the front protector from shieldzone... and going to get a case as well?

Just pre-ordered my iPod Touch and I have been doing some research on cases and such. The Invisible Shield you've guys have mentioned sounds great but not sure if I want to have all this thin film covering my new iPod. I'm rather thinking of purchasing Griffin's iClear to protect the device but I also want to know about the touch screen section, if it protects that part and if it does, how will this affect the functionality of it.

I'm also considering Griffin's California Roll (Black) as a travel carrying case. It looks cool and it has the pockets for the iPod's cables.

Thats the question im wondering to, i love the iclear from griffin, but the touch area im not sure how it will work. Im sure its some sort of flip open design or the front will be completely open, thats my guess. Either way im getting the invisible sheild because its a touchscreen i think the screen is bound to get scratched up or smudges all over it. The shield would be easier to clean i think. I wasnt considering the case until i saw those Conteir ones, they looks impressive, didnt think a case could look at that good.

I ordered the Invisible Shield yesterday so I would have protection ready before the Touch arrives. I checked my order and it shipped today. So yes, it will get here before 9/28.

However, I didn't find out till after that Invisible Shield has a "orange skin" texture to it. Some iPhone users described it as 'rubbery'. That's great for the back of the Touch--the texture provides grip. But not for the front. I want a skin as smooth as glass so I can see the 'Net as clearly as possible. And it's way more expensive than Best Skin Ever or Power Support Crystal shields. However, neither of these companies have skins for the Touch yet.

So, I jumped the gun a bit. I might use the Invisible Shield for the back and a clear skin for the front.

I plan to buy a case too.

Orange substance? I read about that but it was for the bestskinever version, thought maybe the more expensive one wouldnt do that. I read about the cases peeling but they claim if u do it like the intructions and let it set for 24hrs it wont peel.

I cancelled the Invisible Shield order and they refunded my money. I pre-ordered the EZ silicon case because it doesn't require pre-payment. But I really like the Belkin leather case. Very chic.

# 28 Re: Cases for the Ipod Touch
Orange substance? .

No. "Orange peel" is a term used to describe a textured surface. Pick up an orange (the fruit) next time and run your finger over its surface. That's what the term "orange peel" refers to. The "peel" of a fruit is another word for its "skin". It is not used to refer to the action of "peeling", so he's not saying it peels off too easily, he's saying it has a textured (as opposed to completely smooth) surface.

# 29 Re: Cases for the Ipod Touch
I had one on my Creative Zen Vision:M when I had it. It's hard to explain what it feels like, it isn't a textured surface on the product.. But you can definitely tell you have some type of shield covering the unit.. It's crystal clear, as long as you follow the application instructions to a T.

Nope and i havnt gotten a tracking number even. I think its still listed as a pre-order on their website. But in the email confirmation i got, it said it would ship the next business day. This is a pain also because i dont want the ipod touch without the shield lol.

# 36 Re: Cases for the Ipod Touch
It isn't listed as a pre-order anymore. I ordered mine last night so we shall see.

I figure the Invisible Shield plus a nice leather case like the Elan from Griffin. Something I can slip it in and out of, should be plenty of protection. I want to be able to slide it out of the case so I can mount it in my car for the ride home, etc.

I'm not so much worried about scratching the screen as I am cracking it. If I use the invisible sheild with no case I risk bumpng into something and cracking the screen. that's why I would like to find a case that covers the screen as well.

Which is why I'll pick up some sort of leather padded folio style case. I'll have the touch protected from scratches and when in transit it will be in the padded leather case for those "Whoops" moments. I'm digging the Griffin Elan Convertable right now...

They dont have any tracking system, i think they jus ship it according to what they said in the email u get back after u order it. Something like 2 business days after u order it , its shipped. So depending on the shipping days u selected, you should expect it in that time frame, thats my guess.

hmm now that the shields are being delivered, what are u guys getting for a case?

I like the iclear from griffin , but i need to see how the front of the case is created. I also liked the contour case that is designed for the iphone. No announcement for an ipod touch version yet, so we will see.

I have also ordered the Invisible shield for my iPod Touch, which I got yesterday (Yay!!). Unfortunately I haven't gotten the shield yet...

I found that Waterfield Designs has some nice iPod cases. Check them out here: http://www.sfbags.com/products/ipodsmartcase/ipodsmartcase.htm.

Are there any other cool cases out there yet for the Touch? I like the Contour Designs iPhone case but does anyone know if they are planning on releasing one for the Touch?

Any help is appreciated!
