Sending it Back

Since my original post Temperamental Video I have used my 16gb (Week 37) Touch as much as possible.

I have watched many movies and tv programs created using:

PQ DVD to iPod video suite
Sony Vegas Platinum 8
PQ DVD to iPhone video suite

To date, I havent watched a single file through from start to finish without it crashing. As if thats not bad enough trying to get back to the exact place where it crashed is almost impossible with the fiddly scroll bar. Its not nearly sensitive enough.

Every one of the files works fine on my 80gb Video iPod, and through iTunes but the Touch refuses to behave correctly.

I have therefore decided to send it back and wait until Apple have ironed out the bugs.

Furthermore, In my experience, the screen fix (1.1.1) does improve the situation but you have to tilt the iPod away from you 3-4 degrees for it to take full effect which is bizarre.

Im going to finish by saying that overall the touch is fantastic, web browsing is superb and the overall experience is amazing. I wanted one; I got one; and I still want one! Im just not prepared to end up being stuck with a duff unit after my 30 days are up.

If anyone knows of a more robust application for creating iPod Touch compatible .mp4 files please let me know!

You could have just schedualed an appointment at the genius bar and gotten a new one. Just tell them that it crashes randomly while watching videos (if you say randomly they won't ask you to prove it.)

I would'nt have sent it back ,you could have just easily exchanged for a new one.

Not sure what the genius bar is? Dont know if we have that here in the UK.

Amazon.co.uk has agreed to exchange or refund at my discretion, but I dont want to get into a game of iPod ping-pong if the next one exhibits the same problem. Id rather buy it over the counter from a local store, at least that way I can return it easily.

I have now found other threads elsewhere on the web where others appear to have the same issue and until Apple resolve it Im not happy being left with one of the faulty ones.

Really is a shame!

Genius Bar is the in Apple store technical support area - they have them in all Apple shops in the UK as well as the US obviously.

However I do not know if they would swap a touch you bought from amazon with one from themselves? maybe someone in America can let us know what the policy is there?

Of course the other problem would be even IF they agreed to change it I doubt they have any in stock to swap it with here in the UK!

Is that considered as Dead on Arrival?
