New Paperweight

Well, after less than a week my Ipod Touch is DEAD! Well not completely dead but the touch screen is not responding so as of now I am stuck at the Unlock screen. The home button works fine and I can still sync it but NO TOUCH SCREEN. I'm trying to restore is right now to see if that fixes it but its most likely being exchanged tomorrow. Do most Apple stores have them in stock now?

you hold the button on top for like 5 secs..........if the red bar doesnt slide..then i guess you are fed!

I dont know what it means by being "fed" but obviously if the TOUCH SCREEN doesnt work, I cant slide the red button located on the TOUCH SCREEN. Thanks though.

Thank you! That worked. Who knows if it will happen again or not but for now it seems to be fine. I knew on the old ipods that it was possible to reset them but i wasnt sure how to do that on the Touch.

Ok so the problem continued, every few days (usually when the battery life gets in the red zone) my touch locks up and the touchscreen wont respond. Sometimes reseting it works, sometimes it doesnt. Anyway my question is, will Apple hassle me over exchanging it? I bought it at an Apple Store and I have an appointment with a Apple Genius Bar guy later today. If the problem doesnt show up while I'm there will they still exchange it or are they gonna charge me restocking fees?

Before you try to exchange it try restoring it. If that does not fix your problem then I would bring it in for an exchange.

Yea I tried restoring it. No luck. Problem is it only happens randomly every once in a while, so its hard to tell whether its been completely fixed or not.

Sooo the Apple Genius says my Ipod Touch freezes up because I have Limewire on my computer. Even if none of the content on the Ipod is from Limewire, supposedly Limewire will still cause a problem, sounds pretty fishy to me but they wont let me exchange it and he said the only way to fix it is to format my computer completely and keep Limewire off of it.

Limewire won't touch your iPod, it will insert itself into iTunes for sharing but it won't touch your iPod. The Genius is right though in that you shouldn't have Limewire on your computer. Legally purchase the artists' material and stay away from P2P clients as they are virus traps. Yeah, you hear about people who don't get viruses from Limewire but they are few and are probably infected with a virus but they don't know it.

Either way, Limewire is not the problem with your iPod here. I would follow the Genius's recommendation to reformat your computer though. That will make sure that any remnants of Limewire are removed and that your computer is virus free. I would see if you can't make another appointment with the Genius Bar but make sure that dude isn't there. You can go to an Apple Store and make an appointment as you only need to make them about 10-15 minutes in advance on days that aren't busy. Just don't mention Limewire and they should give you a replacement unit.

Thanks for the help. Yea i know Limewire is dangerous but I use Pro and very Rarely download from it. I am restoring my Ipod, used Cleanse Uninstaller to completely remove Limewire and all of its remnants off my computer and run Norton Antivirus Weekly so if the problem persists, I'll try to return it again.

I have limewire on my laptop and have ran the program since I've had my Touch and I have not ran into any unresponsive touch screen issues...
