Ipod Touch for $ 220 - should I do it or not?
Alright, so Ive been a nano user for quiet some time and am very pleased with all the features, handling and so on. Still I thought maybe its time for a change and as it turns out I know somebody whod pay me $ 80 for my old nano, so that Id only spend 220 for a touch.
Do you guys think its worth swichting or not? I defenitly can live with 8 GB and as the iPhone is not an option for me the lack of features is nothing that would keep me away from getting a touch. After all I want an ipod and not a phone, so the only choice I have to make is if I should switch to the touch for an additional cost of $ 220 or not.
Is it even worth changing from a nano to a touch or is the the touch only a shiny gadget but not more than that? I gotta admit that I really like its look and the whole handling, but Im just not quiet sure yet if it maks sense to switch or not.

When you say nano user for "quite some time", how long is that exactly? What generation nano do you own?
If it's the first generation, and you have the funds, I say go ahead and make the jump. If you just got this nano for Christmas, I'd suggest waiting for an Touch update.
The Touch is a very lovely shiny gadget. :D

Its the first gen ipod nano, the best looking by far if youre askin me :-)
Well, of course I could wait, but its always the same with waiting for a consumer electronics product. In 3 months or so you are getting it at a cheaper price and in 6 months there is another review... so thats not really a good reason for me not to buy it.
And i think 80 for the nano aint not that bad of a price, huh?

Do it, you only live once anyway. I have the iPhone but both are amazing. They are still Apple products so everything works as it should and you will enjoy the video and wifi more than you think.

I would do it in a heartbeat. Especially if it's a 1st g nano you're getting $80 for. I kept my 5.5g around, but you won't have any capacity issues. It's so worth it. I LOVE iPod touch. It's the most awe-inspiring gadget I've ever owned.

Well, thats what I was thinking too, but I read some reviews now and they all seam to point out the issues the touch has.
Ill just wait another 2 weeks or so and take a look at it in a store, especially to see if it even fits in my pocket as Id use it when I go out skiing, jogging and stuff.
As I see it people see it two much as I downgraded iPhone and not as an updated ipod and thats why all the reviews are not that good at the bottom line.

Um, the "downgraded" iPhone is opinionated. Yes, the iPhone is nice, but the Touch is flippin' sweet!

I was playing with one in the Apple Store, and they're very nice, really. Definitely pocket-able- theyr'e about the same size as a full-size iPod (1G through iPod classic), but much, much thinner. About the same thickness as your iPod nano.

Mhm, sounds pretty good.
How big is a single movie converted into mpg4 or whatever the format the touch uses is.
I thought 8 GB should be enough for me, but maybe I should wait untill the 16 GB version comes down in terms of price...

Well, if your coming from a first generation iPod nano I'd definately get it! Once you make the change, you'll never want to go back. I've gone through shuffles, nanos, videos, and finally a touch. Touch is by far the best, only problem is the memory. But if you are coming from an iPod nano, you shouldn't have any problems.

Well, I thought that through yesterday and now think that Ill go with the 16 GB version instead of the 8 GB. Sure, its a 100 bucks more and thats a lot of money, but on the other hand th 8 GB drive would be full within a matter of weeks or so and then there is no memory left anymore... but 16 GB should definitely do it as i dont have that much music and even with all the podcastas and video podcasts that should be enough space so that I dont have to worry for some time.
And its not somethin you buy every half a year or so and can update with an external drive (like a comupert), so I think it makes good sense to invest the $ 100.
But does anybody know how big these movies ware? I assume its somewhere between 400 and 800 MB, depending on quality and length of the moview. Am I right?

If you're talking about full length movies then you're looking at at least 700mb - 1.5GBs at 480x320 resolution. But you can always just filter out the ones that you do and do not watch.

700 to 1,5 GB? Looks like another good reason for the 16 GB version :-)
Are you talking about a movie purchased from the itunes store or one you encoded yourself from a DVD or something?
