Anyone tried using a Car Stereo?

I've been contemplating getting the new touch but several factors keep telling me to wait for the next gen. So for those lucky enough to have it already, have any of you tried using the touch using a 30 pin interface with your car stereo?

I know many cars come with the ipod cables as well as many new receivers. So I'm just wondering if the touch will be recognized by my stereo? I don't see why not, but again I've already come across many things I thought the touch would do but it doesn't in comparison to older generations. So let me know as I'm really hoping it does as my old 3rd gen works great with my deck. Thanks!

I have a DICE interface kit that connects to the CD changer wiring in my BMW Z4 and then allows control of the iPod through the radio controls so you don't need to touch the iPod at all. It worked great with my 5G, wifes Nano, daughters Mini and flawless with the Touch too. The only thing different with the Touch is when it is connected it says "Accessory Connected" and will not allow you to control the music via the screen. It is meant to use the radio controls anyway so it does not matter. I can however have music playing, hit the home button and go the main menu and use the other apps. You also cannot see video while it is connected. No biggie on that one for us because the iPod is in the center console where it is locked for security when the top is down.

In my Jeep GC I have an Alpine head unit with RCA inputs connected to a Belkin 30-pin iPod adapter and in that installation the Touch does not display the "Accessory Connected" and I have full control of the Touch as you normally would use it. I have that one mounted using a ProClip system on the dash and it works great, I can rotate the clip 90 degrees to put it in video mode or cover tunes.

Ultimately the Jeep's setup is rather basic, a 30-Pin adapter running to a line in. So it makes sense the Touch does not see it as an accessory and in applications such as this they should work great. The BMW setup is very promising that it should work with most setups out there similar to this. It is in fact controlling the iPod through the cars K-Bus so I was impressed when it did work just as the 5G did.

I have a Neo Ion setup in my car and it works great with my iPod Touch.

I was never able to use the controls on the head unit with my previous iPod (5.5G 30GB video iPod) so I did not lose any functionality. It's fine with me. I usually listen to podcasts or audiobooks while in the car so I don't need to navigate the iPod that much.

I also have an Alpine head unit with line in via a 30 pin jack and it sounds as good as it did with my 5g iPod.

I haven't head of that ProClip system. Sounds pretty nice though, JeepRs.

Not sure on the policy of plugging a product around here but I don't work for them nor am I affiliated in anyway. If I can't endorse a product I apologize and the moderator can delete the post.

I have to say though that the ProClip is a pretty sweet system. I had several friends buy them after seeing mine and I know those friends had the same results when others seen theirs. It is that nice. Somewhat expensive averaging about $65 per 'system' but what you get is a vehicle specific and device specific mounting system that looks sharp when installed. To me it increases the safety factor of trying to navigate an iPod while driving because it is mounted high and secure on the dash and allows me to navigate the iPod while still seeing the road with peripheral vision. I fought spending the money on it for so long and after I got it I just kicked myself for waiting, it makes the auto experience so much better. You can google the company and check them out...I think you'll dig it.

It seems as if most audio controllers that control the iPod through the dock still work with the Touch.

I know this is a car thread, but I can plug the Touch into my Klipsch iFi and can control the Touch with the iFi remote. At least THAT part hasn't been disabled by Apple...

Are there car kits with LCD displays for video playback from an iPod? I would be really annoyed if I bought such a system (great for entertaining kids with a large library), and the new iPods were incompatible.

Got my new touch via FedEx today and just tried it in my car. I worked just fine with my Pioneer 5900 head unit with iPod cable.

While connected, I could access all the various features/programs on the iPod touch. When I pressed Music or Video I saw a screen that said 'Accessory Attached'.

I went to pro clips site, they dont seem to have a clip for the TOUCH available?

Am i missing or not seeing it ? or can you choose another model for the ipod touch to fit in? i would love to use one of those holders.

They will very soon... they are pretty quick at keeping up with new models. I am using my 60GB device clip and placing a piece of foam behind it to hold it. You cant see the foam and it works but I plan on getting the Touch clip as soon as they release it myself. I have been using them since my 2G I think and I always ordered the new clips I as I got the new iPod's.

Thanks a lot you guys. Definitely more responses then I would of expected. That's awesome, I was so worried after reading all these reviews of things they stripped from the touch that it wouldn't even simply work with my car stereo. Sounds awesome, can't wait to pick one up and connect it to my stereo! :D
