Ipod Touch syncing video problem
When trying to sync videos that work on my 60gb ipod perfectly fine to my ipod touch, itunes gives me a message saying ' the disk could not be read from or written from'.
it worked fine with the first video but after that it keeps giving me that message. Even trying with the same video that worked on the touch before for some reason it now gives me the same message.
I already tried re-starting my ipod and so forth.
any suggestions?
thanks.

just got mine Touch and i'm getting the same error after about a minute of trying to sync anything.
I also have a 60gb thats been working perfectly.
o, how sad.
# 2 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
this is so annoying.
i get to transfer a couple hundred meg before i get the error that " the disk could not be read from or written to'
and then i gotta disconnect...reconnect and do another 200 meg. Then when it was all done...1/2 my album covers were wrong.
the adventure continues.
Apple better call the super because there is something wrong with the Sync.
# 3 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
I am having syncing problems as well... I am using an iMac G4, which I am reasonably certain is USB 1.1, and I wonder if it's just too slow. I am updating my iBook (which does have USB 2.0) to Tiger right now so I can update iTunes there, and will try to sync it on that machine. I wish Apple had stuck to Firewire in the iPods.

glad to know i'm not alone in this problem!
i have yet to put a movie on this thing!
# 5 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
Same problem i am having
i have the 9c738 Serial number (week 38)
using the latest itunes
and running on windows xp sp2
This problem is driving me crazy.
Any updates on this issue?
# 6 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
According to the Touch manual, you probably have to convert your videos to play on the Touch. You do so by clicking on Advanced>Convert Selection For IPod. You should then be able to add the video to the Touch.
# 7 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
I tried adding the same movie with another computer at my house, and it worked just fine!
So that tells me it's a problem with my pc or itunes. I already tried re-installing itunes and nothing yet.
Starting to run out of ideas too...
# 8 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
Did you convert them as the guide indicates?
# 9 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
Yep. There's a ton of people with the same problem over at Apple's forums as well.
Gah!
# 10 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
Its not the IPOD. I got that issue too. then I realized I had 8 things plugged into my USB port and USB hub.
i have 4 integrated USB ports. 3 are used, and 1 leads to another 4 port hub. Its drawing too much power and the IPOD usb needs a constant power stream in order for it to accept transfers at certain speeds.
check your USB usage, and also make sure if enough power is allocated to the USB slot you're using (hopefully you guys know how to do that in device manager for PC, not mac).
Or simply unplug everything, except the ipod and see if it works.
Another thing, if you have front USBs on your BAY...use the back ones, the front dont have as much power allocated to them since they are created/designed for wireless/bluetooth devices, like mouse and keyboard.
Use the BACK usb devices, and reboot your machine and IPOD. and you should be fine.
One instance, my friend was getting that issue, he unplugged all power consuming USB devices...and it didnt work. So he had to restore his IPOD, and it worked with no problem from there on. But as soon as he plugs in his printer, he gets that error again.
so its all about the USB power drainage you're using.

It's timing out on all four computers in my house (two Toshiba laptops, an eMachine, and a desktop I built myself...)
I think it's an iPod issue. I've tried it with nothing hooked into the USB ports, I've tried all 5 ports on my computer, and I've done a full restore of the iPod.
Plus, my iPod Video syncs with no problem...
# 12 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
no problems syncing my Touch... USB 1.1 on my G4 eMac is SLOW
# 13 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
Looks like Joe was correct; at least in my case. I was getting the "cannot copy to disk" message after about 50 songs. After folowing his advice syncing worked fine, both music and videos.
Thanks Joe,
Jim

I have 6usb ports.
3 of them are being used... mouse, keyboard, and ipod.
I did everything Joe said to do and nothing.
This is unbelievable...

lets work this out. Have you tried swapping the usb plugs and change the ports that they are in? swap em around, bc remember, you have different power allocated to different ports, one might be drawing more power than another
is the ipod working on another computer? is it just this computer? or does the problem shadow the ipod?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to help me out!
To answer your questions.
I tried swamping the USB around, and it has def improved the speed of the sync but it still times out every other 2 albums or so. The ipod works perfectly on my gf's computer and I also tried it on my dad's computer and no problem. my computer, however, is giving me problems.
Thanks again!

Ok. do you have a PC or MAC? you didnt answer that question. Also, are you familiar with how to modify/see power allocation for USB connections? Maybe the ones in the back dont have a high power count. If the issue is only on the computer, and not where the ipod goes, then yours is a different issue, but related since its similar.
So mac or pc? and do u have a power USB hub anywhere lying around?
# 18 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
I'm running a pc, windows xp. And i'm not familiar how to modify or see the power usage for the usb connections. And i dont think i have a usb hub lying around either. :/
thanks again.
# 19 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
so the issue is not with the IPOD since its fine at other PCs. The issue is with your computer.
Ok. try this. Go to Device manager, Click on hardware ,click on the PLUS + sign next Univeral Serial Bus Controllers. Right click on USB Root Hub and go to properties. You should have a few of them. Each port represents 1 USB root hub. Right click and go to properties.
Click on teh power tab (should be 2nd from left). And report back the stats.
How much available? How much in use? Do they all match (ALL THE USB ROOT HUB DEVICES).
On the top, it will also say how much power is allocated to the root hub when you click on the power tab.
Check for inconsistancies, and diferences.
# 20 Re: Ipod Touch syncing video problem
the mouse is running 98 mA
USB (3 ports) 400 mA
it's reading a storage keeper for 100 mA
and it's saying i have 500 mA left
