Apple fesses up to faulty iPod touch screens!

Sorry if this has already been posted, great news none the less.

It looks like those complaining of problems with the iPod touch's screen weren't seeing things, as Apple has now reportedly confirmed that at least some early units did indeed ship with defective screens. That bit of news comes at the tail end of a review of the player by none other than Walt Mossberg, who reports that Apple says the problem affected a "small number of units" and that it is "being remedied." Exactly what that remedy entails, however, is unclear, as is the exact number of units affected. In related news, there's also been a few unconfirmed reports cropping up of similarly dim screens on newer iPhones, with the problem seemingly traced to units released after the now infamous price cut. No word from Apple on that, but if your new iPhone's display looks a little off, feel free to let us know.

Yeah heard this yesterday but its good that they are admitting it because it shows that they care for the consumers. This will keep me buying Apple products because I know they always make the best quality.

Yeah heard this yesterday but its good that they are admitting it because it shows that they care for the consumers.Wha? Where does this show care? This just shows they want to sweep it under the rug before it winds up on the front page of the money section of CNN. They screwed up, they let enough duds out into the environment that the problem is widespread across markets and then they drug their heels at addressing the problem long enough for it to become common knowledge on tech websites. This is nothing more than weak damage control.

This will keep me buying Apple products because I know they always make the best quality.Yes, it sure shows they make the best quality when they're looking at what ought to be a recall of their highest profile item of the year after the iPhone.

Yes but they still haven't announced what they are going to DO about the faulty ones.

They will probably keep your money.

From what I've gathered on the Apple support forums, apparently certain cereals starting with certain numbers and above I think W37? Are the ones that do not have the screen problem.

Week 38 are fine. I have one, and it's quite nice compared to my week 37 from before.

Apple is expanding their return policy a bit for this one, as I understand it, and instructing Apple Store employees to do exchanges without hassle (or restock fees) for iPod touches that have this defect.

Other retailers are following suit. Best Buy gave me no problems at all.

Also, Apple shut down two factories that manufactured the faulty LCD screens.

Is that enough attention to the matter, or would you like Steve to deliver your new iPod touch to your door wearing a sad bear costume, singing an apology song, too?

It's been dealt with. Go exchange your iPod. End of story.
