Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
Ok all here it is... The negative image screen is a week 36 build purchased from the Apple Store and the good screen is a week 38 build from my preorder that I received today. All of the specs from my two units can be found in the thread I started that is titled "My preorder arrived today!"
You will notice a big difference...truly night & day. The scene is from Mission Impossible 3.
Enjoy and good luck to those of you in search of your perfect Touch, just like the M&M commercial says....they do exist... :D

# 3 Re: Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
alright. my ipod definitely looks just like the defective one, perhaps even worse. Should I just keep bringing it back to the Apple store each week until I get a week 38 one?
# 4 Re: Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
I tried that I still don't see them! Not that I need to, just want to make sure all of you can...!
If I were you, exchange it, check the s/n on the back of the box the fourth & fifth digit is the week build... anything other than 38 and I would pass on it... Seems week 36 is mostly all bad, week 37 a mix and 38 seems good. With all I gathered anyway...

I would say that all of 37 are bad... or at least a VERY VERY small number are good.
I just hope that there arent bad ones in 38.

Nice! The Week 38 looks good, probably iPhone quality as we all originally hoped for.
# 14 Re: Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
It is tough to beat the glare on the screen when taking a photo! If anyone has suggestions to getting A)better pics and B)a better scene then I would be happy to help out and repost...

I'm really glad this problem is fixed. i can't wait until the Apple stores start getting in Week 38's
# 16 Re: Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
They definitely don't have the 38's in yet. I exchanged mine today and got another defective 37.
# 17 Re: Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
If your camera has macro mode, use it. Don't use flash, use diffused lighting if possible.

Need better camera. :D
Take picture where there is no other light source so theres no reflection.
Darker room.

# 19 Re: Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
I was going to take some pictures but it's not worth it. I was going to take it with my 2.0 megapixels LG enV camera phone. But trust me my iPod is in perfect condition and those pictures would be horrible
# 20 Re: Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
Take the flash off...turn on Macro mode...and try to hold the camera as steady as possible (use a tripod if u have one). I'd like to see some pics of the silence of the lambs scene 2. Thanks for posting pics, this is great!

Believe it or not, I used no flash, macro mode on a 7.1MP Canon with Image Stabilization!
I did not try much after these as I wanted to get them posted ASAP... I will work on SOTL Scene 2 and try again... I was not all that happy with them but felt they got the point across.
Stay tuned...

A good suggestion here... The darker room will just pull the video not the background or cause glare... I will try it out.

# 23 Re: Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
Bump the ISO to at least 400. The pictures will get a bit noisier bit it will allow for a faster shutter speed.
Which Canon did you buy? I just got the SD870 and it's ok for snapshots but not cut out for this type of thing.

# 24 Re: Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
None of the point and shoot cameras are great for those type of shots ( I work for Canon and have tried them all) We don't need great shots, just good enough to get the point across.
# 25 Re: Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
I got the Canon SD300 4.0 MP its slick and quality is great.

When it was new $1299 for the body plus lenses (another $1500 in my case), plus photography lessons if you don't know how to shoot with an SLR.
These days you can pick up a used Canon Rebel XTi or 20D, etc, for $500-$600. Decent "kit" lens, $100.
Learning to shoot, priceless.

Do you have to go to school to become a photographer? Because I already think I have the skills.

No, of course not. There's a difference though between knowing "what makes a good picture" and knowing how depth of field, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc, come into play to make that shot actually "look good".
and now we are so far off topic, I'm going to exit, stage left!

# 31 Re: Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
Wow, this thread has gone way off topic. If you think you have the skills than you don't need to go to school. Buy a digital SLR and takes lots of pictures. If you feel that you need to learn more about the camera, take a photography class or two.
# 32 Re: Wk 36 vs. Wk 38 Pictures of good iPod Touch
Unfortunately it is the camera, I am well aware of bumping the ISO and it just got too noisy. I settled for some that are ok and reposted. Bear in mind you are also looking at the very first pics I have ever shot with it. It is a A570IS. I am also well aware it is a near entry level P&S however the size and cost suit our needs for a portable. I do have a Nikon D80 DSLR and could take some killer shots with the 50mm 1.4 lens...of course it is not here though, and yeah...this got off topic! I was just trying to help out here not enter a photo contest!
Additional pics are posted, follow same link on page one.

Hi Folks
I have a w37 I-touch. I have loaded War of the Worlds. Watched the scene in the house basement, pretty dark scenes. I only seem to have problems when my brightness is turned up full at 50% level its looks ok. Is the screen issue on all brightness settings?
