Which model numbers are for the fixed version?

Not sure if anyone saw that, but on apple.com, their discussions forum had a topic listed with with appeared to be the fixed ipod touch's model numbers versus the broken versions. It was on their forums but i checked back a couple hours ago and i couldnt access the page anymore. If anyone knows, ide like to know, i dont want to get stuck with a broken if I purchase it from the store. It was something like LLAN for the broken one and another number for the fixed one. Thanks

If this is true, then I think it'd be safe to say that the # of the broken ones is MA627LL/A, since I have a bad one and that's its model #.

hmm wish the page was available still, but it seemed right because that recent article indicated apple admitting a mistake with the screen, someone on these forums also posted about apple switching manufacturing plants. The two numbers reflected when the ipod touchs were manufactured. The first number was the broken screens and the other was the newer ones. Getting it online looks like the best way to get a corrected one so far, im thinking about costco, apparanrtly stores in arizona will get them on the 20th.

I have not seen any new numbers for the touch. There are the following numbers that Complexis started a thread in this forum on and others have discussed on the apple discussion forums.

For the 16GB Model:
Mfr.Part: MA627LL/A
Mfr.Part: MA627ZY/A

For the 8GB Model:
Mfr.Part: MA623LL/A
Mfr.Part: MA623ZY/A

However a simple google of these numbers make it pretty clear that the numbers ending in ZY/A are simply the Spanish versions of the iPod Touch.

I would also doubt that Apple will change the SKU if and when the fixed units enter the marketplace. Serial number differentiation will be enough for Apple to isolate any flawed units.

People are reporting some different part numbers for the ones they have been getting from their online Apple order fullfillments.

Are they? Can you provided the numbers? I hate to be 'that guy' and I am not trying to be argumentative but I have been all over the boards myself and other than the country code being different there is no other part number. It also is not the way Apple traditionally handles problem units. So... until we all see the actual numbers and can search them as being actual USA part numbers, I say it is misinformed people perpetuating bad information.

I have the MA627LL/A model and I just checked it, and I dont have the screen issue:)

I had one that I got Saturday from Best Buy, i had not really noticed my screen issue before - not sure i even had one, but i did manage to scratch the silver in the back so i went return it to Best Buy and get a Brand new one, i have left the plastic sleeve on it for now, I have an invisible shield on the way so i am waiting for that.

But yes, i checked my screen on this unit and it is better then my other one, so no complaints.

I'm pretty sure if the fourth and fifth digits of your serial number are 38, which is the build week, then your unit is fine.

That doesn't mean anything.

Having a model in the range of possible bad ones means you have a possibility of getting a bad one.

What WOULD mean something is if you had a bad one that was OUTSIDE the range of possibly bad ones.

I think PA627LL/A might just mean it is engraved. Ma means it's not. I think.

I went through two faulty week 37 units with part number MA627LL/A before giving up and getting a refund.

So far all the week 38 builds I've heard about have had no problems.

Some of the week 37 are good...some are bad. It appears that the transition occured during that week.

I stared with a week 36 from best buy. Brought it back today and got a week 37, a little bit better but almost as bad.

Anyone know when Best Buy will be getting week 38's?? I'm so sick of all this...
