Anyone else having trouble synching to Calender?

My itunes doesn't seem to recognize my calender. It will synch the contacts on my outlook express, but totally ignores my calender events in Outlook. Any ideas how I can fix this? I'm running Microsoft XP Pro.

I have the same issue and haven't been able to fix it. Apparently, iTunes tries to synch ALL the calendar files on your PC. I have several files left over from prior computer upgrades, but all are blank. iTunes synchs my ACTIVE calendar, but then over-writes the data with info from another calendar file, so I end up with nada on the iPod.

Does anyone know what file it's trying to synch to? If I knew that, I could find all the old ones and change their names.

I have heard some people saying that it cannot sync outlook calendars. I don't know if this is true but this is what I have heard.

No problem here. Just went into Itunes and set the Touch to synch with Outlook, although I could have set it for other calenders as well. Make sure to follow the instructions in the guide.

So wait... it has to be done through iTunes, right? What happens for the majority of folks who have their primary iTunes at home for music and movies, but want to sync their iPod with their work PC's Outlook calendar?

Is there any problem doing that? Does iTunes or the iPod flip out about trying to sync with a calendar at a different computer than where it gets its music and movies from?

It's a good question that hopefully someone can answer. I haven't tried this at work, just at home. But it would seem logical that once you have set the Touch to synch Outlook, or whatever calender you're using, through ITunes, that it would synch any calender on any computer.

Anyone else try this?

Er, how exactly do you sync an ipod to a computer without iTunes? I'm pretty sure everything is done through iTunes and all synching is done through 1 computer. If you try to synch with another computer doesn't it erase all data first?

Well that would be downright stupid for everyone who hopes to sync with their work calendar but obviously gets their music and movies from their home computer.

I wonder if it'll work if I VPN into my work PC from my home PC...

But this isn't a business device. The iPhone barely qualifies as one itself. If you insist on intermixing your personal media with work data (which many businesses frown upon), then you'll just have to manage them on the home computer.

The "business" aspect really is irrelevant. No one called it a business device. The point is many people have their media on a different computer than their calendar, particularly because most people don't 'calendar' their personal time but almost always do 'calendar' their work time.

wtf? quite the opposite: like most normal people, my business calendar is the only real calendar i have or need to keep. and like most normal people, my media is on my home computer not the one with my calendar.
this is a very BASIC and COMMON thing that should have been taken care of in QA so that people can actually MAKE USE OF the calendar sync functionality - where they actually have a calendar to sync with - work!

Some of us need calendars for stuff other than business. I have 2 calendars, one for my job, one for my social life/ errands and other random stuff. I'd like to be able to sync the latter to my ipod.

Once again, anybody know anything about syncing with google calendar.

To put it a more generic way so semantic trolls can't pick it apart just say this:

I need to sync a calendar on a different system than where my media is stored. Why didn't Apple make accommodation in the calendar sync fucntion for this very common need?

"Business" aspect is totally relevant I think. If the company is drawing the line between personal and business, then the device will really be designed within those boundaries.

I'm not saying what you want doesn't make sense, just that's not how the device was intended by Apple to be used. I'm sure QA had nothing to do with it, as these light PDA apps are more an afterthought and if someone wants any serious (ie, BUSINESS) use, there are much better devices on the market.

Wow, relax and breathe deeply. No need to throw around insults when all I'm trying to do is give a certain perspective on this.

Speaking from an "abnormal" perspective, I have both personal and work calendars, and have no desire for my work calendar to be on my ipod. I would imagine there are other "abnormal" 9-5'ers with work supplied laptops or pda/cellphones who would also not see the need.

I really think you're barking up the wrong tree, here. Most ipod users don't even use those functions anyway, which is why their functionality is so minimal. I would suggest a more full blown PDA. I know iPaq's had the ability to sync with 2 computers.

There are no insults in my post.

Fact is this and you are still avoiding it: People often have their calendar on a different system than their media. The calendar sync functionality should be able to accommodate this common need to sync the calendar separately from media.

Your overuse of the word normal implies people like me are abnormal. Just because I keep my work calendar separate? I find that insulting. Why not just say "most people", even though you may have no idea how most people use calendars?

I agree that people often have their work calendar on a different computer than their media. I agree with you 100% there. But what is this common need to have that data on an ipod? My calendar at work is filled to the rim, but why would I want to carry that around with me on my ipod? If my job involved many calendar appointments while out and about (like, say, a salesman), I would have them supply me a REAL PDA. This is aside from the fact that many businesses won't even permit consumer owned devices to be on their networks and synching with company-owned computers.

I'm running Windows XP Pro, but Outlook from Office 2000. Do you think this might be why I can't get itunes to recognize a calender? Do I need a newer version of Outlook?

# 20 Re: Anyone else having trouble synching to Calender?
Yes, that might be the reason. Since the system requirements for the Touch is Windows XP or later then I would guess you would have to have at least office xp. Call 1800 My Apple up and ask them what the requirements are to make sure before you get the newer version.
