Interesting development of iPod touch issue

So I just got off the phone with a very nice Apple tech service guy because I wanted them to repair and hopefully replace my screen for the iPod touch. At the end of our conversation, he said to me that they "recently" shut down one of the two LCD manufacturing plants where the iPhone and iPod touch screens were being produced.

Interesting eh? If this is true, then it means that Apple definately knows about this issue.
I guess even if not, they should know about this anyway.

That doesn't sound too surprising to me. Apple may never officially address the issue, but I'm sure that they know about it. Most likely the problem will quietly disappear in the next few weeks.

Apple definitely knows something is wrong, they have PR people who silently lurk sites like these and report back - thankfully.

Yeah, I doubt apple will ever adress the issue, that would just lower their sales. They will just replace the iPod's with the bad screens and eventually they will all be gone and will we all have good screens.

So judging by that, it appears that 50% have the problem. Oh joy.

agreed. i don't really see apple making a statement, i think this is going to be something where the deffective ones will be shuffled out and the good ones will reach stores without having to admit something was wrong

Exactly, this always happens with a new product and this is exactly what the company does. When there is a problem during the early release of a product companies simple phase out the bad products and replace them with good ones. Apple is not the other company this happens too, there are many.

its just more apparent for apple products because of people like us who watch apple's every move and inspect their products under a microscope

Yeah, haha apple is under a lot of pressure from its loyal consumers like us. They give us a phoneless iPhone (exactly what most people wanted) and we still have little things to complain about (calendar not editable) its ridiculous :shake:

lol loyal customers like us... yeah, who else would come on the forums nearly every day posting and reading about the touch. Yup, were definitely the most likely ones to look at Apple with a microscope.

the sad thing is that there are probably some consumers who are not savvy enough to realize they have a defective product and will just assume "that's just the way it is"

Also, for those going to Best Buy, don't expect them to be in stock...

Best thing to do with Best Buy is check online for local pickup, then order if it's in stock in your area.

I got a 16GB that way on Saturday, unfortunately returned it today due to the screen. But right now none of the local stores have either model in stock (in L.A.).
