UK i-touch - My experience re the screen
I have a UK update for you. I picked up a 16gb touch yesterday from the bluewater store and immediately noticed the screen problem with dark scenes. It seems that this problem is not exclusive to those shipped in America.
What I have noticed is that the viewing angle is very narrow and looking at it flat on was not the best angle. I found tilted very slightly backwards (as it would be if viewed on the enclosed stand) was best. Overall though it felt like viewing a computer monitor that has one of those screen privacy filters fitted. Ironically today (day 2) it looks much better and I have no idea why?
I rang Apple support today, useless she basically said we have support for the touch yet. I then rang the Bluewater store and the guy was great he had not heard of the issue but went and looked at a store sample for me and said he could see what I meant but then said (not so good) that it was a limitation of the screen design. He told me to bring mine in for a comparison and reminded me that I had the option of a refund or exchange within 14 days.
My main question is do we think Apple will address this? As I have another 13 days I am going sit on mine for a week or so and see what happens, in truth it is not that bad but imo is not the quality I was expecting.

depends. Is this story going to make it to the mainstream media? If it does, they have no choice but to address it. If it stays locked up in this corner of the internet, they can just ignore it.

Alternatively you could keep it have lots of fun with it and then when they sort out the screen issues return it under warrenty to Apple who will fix it and send you back a perfect touch!
The fact is its pot luck if you exchange it if you would get a better model - so wait like me and sort it out when you know the problem is fixed.
I would also like to remind everyone that whilst Apple may say we have 14 days to exchange it under UK law we are entitled to have it replaced/fixed WITHOUT warranty if its not fit for its purpose or faulty (etc).

if you don't mind me asking, did you get the ipod touch for like the wireless internet and big screen? Idk you might want to consider the ipod classic, it does have its share of problems, but ive had mine for a week, the screen and video quality is really good, plus for 250 you can get 80 gs. Idk just a suggestion.

Nice suggestion, but for me, I only have 7gigs of music and everything is very nice and happy on my 30GB ipod, so I dont intend on getting any of the classic models. Touch however, has the touchscreen, large video screen, and internet which make me really interested in the device, moreso than the new classics.
