The Touch Is No More With 16GB iPhone

It is apparent that with the new iPod Touch using Toshiba flash storage chip instead of Samsung flash storage chip (the storage chip used in the iPhone), is more than likely because they want to secure a deal to get 16GB NAND chips for the iPhone as Toshiba has created the first 16GB NAND chips.

April 2007
"Toshiba announced today that it has created a 16GB flash memory chip intended for consumer products such as cell phones and MP3 players. This is the highest capacity NAND flash memory chip to date, doubling the existing ceiling of 8GB. The 16GB chip is set to ship in the fall, just in time to make Apple's flash memory-based 8GB iPhone seem cramped.

The chip is designed around eight 2GB elements and boasts a copy speed of 6MB per second, with a 15MB per second read speed. Expect a wave of tiny 16GB flash MP3 players for the holidays. "

The topic of this thread makes no sense.

That if, a 16GB iPhone were to be announced, the Touch would be gone.

BUT, the 16GB iPhone would probably go for $600........

The 16GB touch won't be any more obsolete than the 8GB touch...

How do you figure this? Do you not realize that there are many, many people who want the iPhone without the phone? A 16 GB iPhone will appeal to people who want an iPhone.

By your logic, the nano should be no more because a 160 GB iPod classic is available.

Keep in mind that you can unlock the iPhone and use the features without a service provider and only with Wifi. It would be identical and have longer battery life too with quality screen. The only thing the iPod TOuch has that iPhone doesnt is the Video Out and an even slimmer form factor.

The iPhone is only sold in very few countries at the moment while the Touch is sold world wide.

The Touch is here to stay, Period.

Toshiba also announced a 32GB SD card a few weeks back. 16GB is nothing.

All the more reason to wait for Apple to upgrade the iPhone with them.

It makes sense that Apple will make the $399 8GB iPhone their entry iPhone and add 16GB iPhone for $499 as the high end device.

And I expect the same will soon happen with iPod touch. 16GB is entry level at $299 and 32GB model available for $399 by March/April.

Consider it a "refresh" with the first possible Gen 2 available at the end of next year.

Touch will always be cheaper than the iPhone, especially in terms of capacity. A 16GB iPhone would be $500, so people have more incentive if they don't need a phone, to get the 16GB iPod touch which is $400.

lol I didn't mean gone as in discontinued, but I meant that one CAN unlock an iPhone and then use the 16GB AS WELL as all the features that Apple were so willing to take out on the touch.

"The touch is nothing more than training wheels for the iPhone," and I find that quite sad...
