How PDA is the Touch?
Is this really the latest Apple Newton? How rounded a product would it be if it is. Very little is said in the Touch online Video about the Calendar and Contacts. Will they sync with Entourage for example? Can you set Alarm reminders (even though there are no speakers)? Will it be possible to hack so third party programs could be loaded onto it? The beauty of the old Newton was the myriad of apps available to it. Mind you it was like carrying around a small house brick. I'm really at a dilemma. Here in Australia we won't see the iPhone till at least 1st quarter 08 but the Touch will be out in a couple of weeks. Also quite happy with my Motorola Rav3 phone and hopefully the Touch gives you more than the iPhone if you aren't fussed about the phone part. I'm not a huge mobile phone user but I do like PDAs and TV show watching. I currently use my Sony PSP for movie and TV watching but again it's too big to carry in the pocket whereas the Touch in a decent case could go in my trouser pocket. Plus the Touch has double the storage of the iPhone. I just don't know what to do :)

Might just want to wait until the reviews are out. Contacts is there and there's little reason to think it won't be much the same app as the iPhone. Still, the delivery delay is a bit of a blessing as a few reviews should be out in a couple of weeks to give us the full scoop. I say this as a proud Newton MP 2000 owner of 10 years now.

Just gave my 2000 away. Had them all from the MP110 upwards. Actually I think the first one I had that I bought at CES in Chicago was just called the Newton pre 110. Loved it. So innovative. I always remember the guy on the stand demonstrating the handwriting recognition on the first model which was crap at the best and he wrote the word Newton which actually translated as Norton. Hilarious. At the time people said it was a great tool for writing original poetry as it would come back with nothing like what you wrote in the first place. But as you know it got pretty damn good in the end.

You can't add new events to the Calendar on the touch, so it's rapidly going out of favour with me. Thing is, although Apple are clearly positioning the Touch and the iPhone as far away from each other as possible, no way will I be paying the stupid iPhone handset prices AND stupid tariffs the Americans paid, when it comes out in the UK. :(

If you ask me (which you didn't, but hey), the delivery delay will delay the reviews too -= and I remain convinced the reason for THAT is that they want us all to buy one ASAP, just before they announce the 16GB 3G iPhone in the UK...
