I Cant decide where to preorder the touch.
so, i need the player by october 6th cause im going on a 5 hour trip and i need something to occupy me. also, which has better warranty policies (IE : ones that cover accidents.) if i got it from the apple site b4 october 6th, i would be fine with the warranty because im careful with my valuables, but it would be good to have it just in case.
can anyone post the return policies for mp3 players from best buy and amazon?
P.S. First Post, Woohoo!

I worked at Best Buy until last February. For MP3 players we returned them within the 30 days unless there were signs of customer damage which can show up on things like the Nano and now Classic models by cracks in the screen, we wouldn't even cover them under the Replacement Plan because they were considered customer abuse. Now if you bought it say an hour or so earlier and then got home and saw that the screen was cracked than we would return it most of the time just due to the possibility that it was out of the box like that, but that happened very rarely. Other than that pretty much anything else we returned it and gave you a new one, or your money back. I'm not sure how Best Buy will cover the Touch seeing that I'm not there anymore
For the extended warranty I'm not sure how much it will cost at Best Buy compared to AppleCare, but it should be pretty comparable and it is a lot easier and hassle free to do stuff through Best Buy instead of having to deal with phone line Customer Service people if you don't have an Apple Store in your town.

Does Best Buy even still offer an actual replacement plan on the iPods? When I got a new iPod all they would offer was the lame service plan. They will NOT replace the iPod 5G under this plan, they will send it off for several weeks to a service center for repair.

On the Nanos and Shuffles we had the Replacement. On the higher capacity we had the Service plan, sorry I didn't specify earlier and thank you for reminding me of that. I know Apple has been trying to wrangle even return control from Best Buy, and most likely other stores, because of the fact that Best Buy is just a reseller and Apple and they would not like to see a huge part of their MP3 sales go away if they didn't follow what Apple told them.
Oh and thanks for the "inside" info on when BB will be receiving them in store. I was debating this evening on whether to go ahaead and order from Apple or wait for Best Buy to get them.

Amazon's return policy is 30 days. Best Buy's return policy is 14-30 days for electronics (I think there's a restocking fee for certain ones). Best Buy will also watch you open up your new purchase right inside the store, let you find a crack, and then pretend that you just made it up or did it yourself in order to get a new one. They will take you through many motions of heartache and pain before allowing the exchange "just this once" and then you'll come on here and give a rant about Best Buy.
Amazon, it doesn't matter.

I pre-ordered from amazon. I may have to wait a bit longer but its worth avoiding sales tax.
