How to pass the time?

So here we are, a few days after the iPod Touch announcement... And many of us are waiting impatiently on that October 2 arrival date! What do you guys do for the near-4 week wait?
I auctioned off my 5.5G 80GB iPod, so I dusted off my 4G iPod, dissected it, coaxed the hard drive into working condition, and loaded it up. It works music-wise, so I don't go crazy without music.
But I am SO BAD when it comes to waiting for stuff to ship, even if it's only a few days' wait. I prefer the "impulse buys" at the store, because when I buy it, I get it RIGHT NOW.
So. I've exhausted the 15-minute video on iPod touch. I've read the apple page on it like five times. How the heck should we pass the next three weeks before we get the Touch in our sweaty little palms?!

I'm almost as bad as you. Today I went to target and purchased a 25$ itunes gift card. This is to try out the wireless music store on the touch. I NEVER buy music from the itms. So that's one way, is to prepare and have the conditions right so you can get the best out of your touch. Maybe you should find a special hand lotion so you won't smudge the screen

I honestly can't wait either, I could easily go into the apple store and buy a classic, but I'm really devoted to waiting for the touch. If you are in high school focus on your work more lol and study instead of waiting and thinking about the new ipods.

For me, getting ready/burning time has consisted of getting my library FULLY and correctly organized. It's been about 80% complete for some time, now I'm finishing that off.
Also, I'm converting my movies and such for iPod use. I used to have a Photo iPod, so I never did.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, I started making a playlist that has around 16 gb of music because i have around 30 but I don't listen to all of it. Then I'm getting the album art for all the songs so the touch will look freakin sweet.

Good idea, since most stuff that works on the Phone will work on the Touch.

I'm with you on that one

Do we need to pre-order them or will the local Apple store have them in stock to buy same day without a pre-order?

Yes, I saw your little comment in another thread... now you made me think about the iPod Touch a different way! Thanks for scarring my mind now, Surf Monkey! ^^ Just kidding.

I preordered mine the second they came up in the apple store. I pass the time by looking at a calender 50 times a day and recounting the days just to make sure I have them right.:D This seems to make the wait seem longer so I might try to find someting else to do, but I dont know what yet

# 13 Re: How to pass the time?
I'm in exactly the same state, it's embarrassing but cathartic to admit... ;)

What's worse is that the rumours of a 16GB 3G iPhone hitting the UK in November are really making me think twice, but I think I can't really afford that, especially with no-doubt astronomical tariffs...

So I've:

- ordered an Invisible Shield for it (because the one I had on my 80GB iPod video was amazing)
- sold my 80GB iPod video on eBay for 160 (paid 195 for it in the first place, 3 months ago!)
- started tidying up my iTunes library, collecting artwork for it all (the new version of iTunes has killed CoverScout though, I think)
- yet to have a look at playlists
- yet to have a look at what TV shows I'd like to keep on there most often (my girlfriend and I watch TV shows together and I don't have that much call or time to watch shows on the move, so things like The Simpsons and South Park will be what goes on it)

I.
Can't.
Wait.

I would be tidying up my library right now but unfortunately my computer crashed. Luckily I had my iTunes library saved on an external hard drive. So I have to wait until I get a new computer to do that stuff. Which will most likely be in a week or so. So...back to my calender checking :D

The zune was never 10x better than the ipod video. I mean brown...who wants a brown mp3 player. The zune is just another wannabe of the ipod. The little scroll wheel and everything. Anyways...thats a whole other topic:D

Welcome to the social...haha

# 21 Re: How to pass the time?
i like brown, cause it's different, and no one has it. and the clickwheel of the ipod is annoying IMO, you always skip your songs and stuff, it was annoying.

why zune was better than the ipod
bigger screen
landscape mode
fm tuner
song transfer to other people who has zune.
14 day free trial of song downloading from zune marketplace.
"all you can eat" $15/month for as many songs as you can download.

ill leave it at that.

# 22 Re: How to pass the time?
Just think about...iPod vs Zune...ok i guess i am going to have to make my point.

iPod+iTunes (I could leave it at that...but I wont)
iPod compatable with both mac and pc opening it to a much larger audience
Zune software does not run on Windows2000...but iPod does(for those still in the dark ages)
Zune-One model 30GB iPod-2 models 30GB and 80GB
Zune is only available in the US, remember there are actually PEOPLE in europe, etc.
iPod user interface is very easy to use
Zune-5.6 ounces iPod-4.8 ounces
Abililty to download games on iPod

Overall with apples customer support, the compatability with iTunes and bigger hard drive...the iPod wins:D

# 23 Re: How to pass the time?
actually, it's personal preference: what wins for you might not win for him.

fwiw, i'm holding out for a Touch as my first iPod because I don't like the clickwheel either. i've had a nice little iRiver 1GB mp3 player for a few years now that's not sufficing anymore in storage size and I find the iPhone interface w/ touchscreen very appealing and want my next player to use a similar interface (hello Touch :)).

# 26 Re: How to pass the time?
Coverflow is built in to the Touch, we're just talking about finding the covers to the albums we have on iTunes. Everything that Steve Jobs talked about at the Keynote is built in and ready to go when you open the box.

1) Look for a case.
2) Figure out how what to include/exclude from big collection.
3) What other possible NEW accesories do I need.
4) Possibly upgrade the ole 802.11b 'coz per sure yer gonna be WIRELESS all the time now!

I've started to rip a lot of my favorite movies for use on the touch. I'll also be setting up some favorite photos to put on there. I think my music will stay basically the same as what's on my 8GB nano. I'm hoping that they start shipping before the 28th.

MacTheRipper to strip off the copy protection and then VisualHub to do the conversion. You could also use HandBrake.

I survived the low memory debate and the calendar controversy, but I'm STILL excited about the Touch, more excited than any product in years.

What I look forward to most is the ultra-portable web browsing. Period. Great itunes stuff, great pda-like stuff, but. . .

I just want to sit in a cafe and be able to surf the web without a "plastic fortress" in front of me. This is more of a social issue than a technical one, but I really want a web-device that 'disappears'. So when a cute girl walks by, I look 'available' and 'friendly' instead of hiding behind my laptop.

i've been passing the time by torturing myself and going to apple's site and just starring at the ipod touch...oh man it's so beeee-yoooo-tiful!!! i guess i'm also considering what case to buy with the touch and i'm looking for something that doesn't hide the ipod's beautiful design... i didn't bother with an engraving this time because most likely the back will be covered anyways.

MacTheRipper used to be free. Now only people who have donated to the cause get a copy of the latest beta (they've been working on 3.0 for long time). You'll have to search around to find a copy. I think 3.0r14 is the latest.

VisualHub is shareware for the odd price of $23.32.

HandBrake is completely free. It will strip the DRM and convert to iPod format.

You can do a Google search to find any of these.
bhauke at 2007-11-15 13:35:37 >
# 47 Re: How to pass the time?
Actually Handbrake doesn't do anything about DRM, at least on Windows. I am using DVD43 in conjunction and it works well.
