Making MP3 File smaller...how small?

Is there a good program to make the file size smaller of your MP3's so you can fit more on the Shuffle? If so how small can you go before you notice a decrease in sound quality? Thanks

Depends, for me it would probably be immediate. It really depends on how good your hearing is, what kind of headphones you use, and what the quality of the tracks is. I would re-rip the tracks, but if you still want to do it you can do it in iTunes or most any other program the rips cds. BTW I care more about sound the quantity so I put Apple lossless on my iPhone, and use smart playlists to give me new music each night.

Thanks. Will experiment with that.

Frankly you aren't going to get much smaller than the intregated "Convert Higher Bitrate songs to 128 AAC" function in iTunes without SEVERELY hurting the sound quality on your files.

Agreed. Tried it and didn't like the results. Will have to just be more selective with the songs.
