4 or 8 Gig?

I don't know which capacity to get. I only have 3.5 free gigs left on my computer so would the 4 gig be the best way to go or will I regret it?

Well, that's going to be a personal call. If you have the money, I don't know why anyone would want less.

If you plan on using it primarily for audio, I think the 4 gig would be fine. For me, the $50 additional for the 8 gig was worth it. Also, you can get any color you like in the 4 gig model as long as it's silver :D

If I'm undecided on something like you are, I always go for the higher end of the two items I'm considering if I can afford it. I've found that if I don't I usually end up with buyer's remorse later on saying to myself "Man, I wish I would have gotten the bigger one".

Thanks for the replies, I'll only be using the iPod for music only.

when you mean you have 3.5 gigs left on your comp, you mean like on the harddrive right? how much gigs of music do you have? oh yeah and if your only going to use it for music, you might consider getting the last generation ipod or even the first gen one. I think my friend said he got a First Gen Ipod Nano for 150, 8 gigs. Of couse you don't get the scratch resistance shell, but i had a first gen nano, as long as you get a case for it, itll be fine.

That's what I have left on the Hardrive, and I have around 2 gigs left on my ipod - which will soon run out when I sync it.

Always get the most capacity you can afford. Get the 8 GB model.

hmm i say go for the 8 gig model, youll use the space eventually, you don't want to go for the 4 gig only to find out 3 months later you need another gig or so of space.

Well I personally barely, and I mean barely had enough money for the 4GB. Bought it today after playing around with my friends one, and I just couldn't resist. It really must be held to be believed. My first impression upon seeing it was that it was some kind of toy iPod...It honestly is amazing. I'm greatly looking forward to it.

I checked them out today and they're tiny alright. Unfortunitly (maybe a good thing now) they had no 4 gig ipods but they did have a black 8 gig which looked amazing so now (and from you guys) I'm considering getting the 8 gig now.

8 Gig, hands down. You will only regret it later if you go cheap now.

I know $50 may be alot to some people, but if you can stretch it definitely get the 8 gig.

I just but the 8 gig for a friend of mine for her Bday, she could easily get away with the 4 gig with the amount of music she has, but she also keeps things forever, so I figure make it a little future proof for her.

I would always get the largest capacity available unless its an excessive difference in cost between the two (which its not in this case).

Plus as someone else mentioned the color choice, its weird that you can only get the 4 gig in one color.

imo 4 gig is damn small for a video..

fine for music..but yea

look at the movie 300 ..i have on my ipod..1.2 gigs.. for 1 movie

soo ehhh..

I went with an 8 GB iPod nano (3G) because video files tend to be very large. For example, a single 45-minute episode from DL.TV takes about 145 MB of storage!

You might think you'll only use audio, until you see the screen. It is AMAZING to me how bright and sharp the screen is. I have a video that I watch TV shows on. (I Tivo them, and then my computer grabs them off Tivo and converts them into iPod format. Oh yes. It is a beautiful, beautiful world.) I've started watching them on the Nano, now. The screen is so sharp, it's amazing. Even my sceptical students passed it around and oohed and ahhed. (I teach a half day Computers, Servers, and Networking program, so I have the geeks...not just geeks, but GEEKS.)

Definitely go for the higher capacity if you can afford it. I just love my Nano. I wanted a new video classic (because my 80 GB was stolen, so I've been having to use my husband's), but now I'm really glad I got the Nano.

I'm going to go with a different take: How good are you at managing your music? Do you use playlists? Smart playlists?

If I didn't listen to so many audiobooks and podcasts, I'd still be using a 4GB mini even though my library is about 170GB. It's purely a matter of having a system in place for management. I've got everything set up with 100% automated smartlists.

Well its either spend $50 more for double the capacity now or $200 for 8GB later..unless you can manage having ~ 1,000 songs.

Me I'm waiting for a 16GB model.

This is not weird at all, it's a very simple business decision. You want a green iPod nano? Great! Just cough up $199 for it. My guess is that silver is not a popular color choice, and that's why they are sacrificing a $50 price reduction for it.

Can i ask any of you 8Gb owners if your click wheel stands out a bit?
My black one does and ive seen others in the shop that did but only in black.
Thinking of taking it back.

Yes but if they are all like this then i wont bother as i have had no other trouble with it and the screen is straight.
No point just swapping it over for the same problem.

"You can never be too rich, too beautiful or have enough storage"

An old programmer saying. If you can afford it, go biggest. Youll never regret it!
