So whos ordered the (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition?

Me!

I ordered a (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition iPod nano 3G a few minutes after the Apple Store was opened (the Danish store).

Current status has just went from Item Not Yet Shipped to Prepared For Shipment!

I just love the deep red color of the iPod. IMO the best looking of the bunch.

I've ordered this color as well - I see in the new review posted on this site that they liked the red and black colors the best, so it may become a big seller.

Are these actually limited editions at which some point they will stop being made in this color? (I don't think so, but that's just a guess on my part).

The Product Reds will definitely still be a seller.

Humm the iPod Colors aren't as bad in real images..apple might look into removing those digital ones that make them look girly.

So it would appear that the Product Red version is a lot more Red and a lot less cranberry than was first believed...

I just don't like the new colors for the video nanos.
Silver is the only color that I like.

I liked the red when it looked darker like a blood red. the picture makes it look like a real red which is okay too but not all that unique. I kind of like the black, it looks like an onyx color I guess but all the others don't look so hot.

YES!
I got mine today!
It's quite possibly the most beautiful piece of electronic apparatus i have ever had the pleasure of owning...
Simply exquisite design, and amazing functionality...
I love the new interface, and it's a lot more like the previous Product Red than the images show it to be...

I got my RED this morning! ;) It's sooooooooo awesome!

The color is indeed red, but in sunlight it turns into a pinkish tone.

Oh well, happy that Apple donates some money to Africa. Anyone know how many percent goes to benefit?

I just got my Product(Red) nano today. Not nearly as pink looking as on apples website. It's actually a darker red than last years model.

I picked up mine last week at an Apple store opening. I was one of the first in line and seeing the color in person made me decide on getting it. I wasn't too keen on previous "reds". Love it!

I received my Product Red Nano today. Colorwise it is nice, but not as red as I had hoped it to be from seeing the pictures on this site.

Not a big deal for me though.

I am very impressed with the feel and how thin it is!

When the 16GB update comes I'll probably be getting the silver, the black doesn't really look as good as previous generations in my opinion.

I have a red 2G which I'm giving to my husband--his mini just died. I bought the red 3G. I have to admit that I really liked the brighter red of the 2G much better. If it weren't for my wanting to support the product red cause, I think I'd have opted for the black. In any event, I love the bright screen and improved capabilities of the 3G.

Is there any link to a more accurate picture of the new 3G red nano? One that gives you a better idea of the shade of red.

Thanks

Dark blood red, goes a lighter almost pink shade in sunlight.

Yep, the important thing for people to understand is that the color varies DRAMATICALLY depending upon how much light is reflecting off of it. People who don't want their iPod to look "dark pinkish" in direct light should not order the red model.

Thanks for the reply Sancroff !

As much as I like the red, I don't want a pink one when I'm outside.

Looks like silver for me. :)

>>the color varies DRAMATICALLY depending upon how much light is reflecting off of it.<<

This is absolutely true--it's almost weird. In one light, the thing is a deep blood red. In another, it's a much lighter purply-pink. I have a 2G red nano, which is bright red, no matter the lighting. The 3G is very different. I'll look at it in some conditions and love the rich tone of the red; and at another and wish they had a better choice than a wussy pseudo-red that isn't really pink either.

# 27 Re: So whos ordered the (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition?
I loved the 2G red nano, but held off ordering a new red nano until I had a chance to see it in person. Yesterday I had that chance, and abandoned any idea of buying it. Its too pink for my taste. The photo posted by Kieran007 is what it might look like under very flat lighting, but as he said, not in sunlight. Nor did it look like that under the lights in the Apple Store. I browsed some Flickr images and think the best representation of what it looks like under "normal" lighting is this one.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/hochit/1395633009/. Notice how its reflecting direct light back to the viewer.
Do not expect it to look like this. http://www.flickr.com/photos/13309009@N02/1363797233/. Its simply not that red.

Oddly, the black nano and black Classic look like different colors. Under light, the black nano has almost a gunmetal grey color where the classic is a much more basic black. This seems to be due to a different sheen on the two devices. The shine on the black nano makes a big difference in darkness between the face and the wheel. I really liked the black nano after seeing it in person and bought that one.

Anyone have more opinions on the red? From what I've been reading and seeing, the red color is nice, but under different lighting, the pinkish tone is a huge turnoff--to the point where some folks are actually returning theirs for a different color.

I love red, but not pink.

Thoughts?

Pictures (even excellent one like those posted here) come close but can't compare to seeing one in real life. I was all set on getting a red nano, but after reading this thread I went to the Apple store to see it in person.

It's definitely dark pinkish from certain angles. Unfortunately, the store has flourescent lights so it's hard to tell how the nano would look in natural light. At best it's a cranberry, light maroon or light burgundy color, not fire engine red or Ferrari red.

I'm still undecided. I like the idea of some $$ going to relief work, so I might get red anyway. OTOH, the black looked really cool in person, MUCH better than pictures convey.

Good luck.

# 30 Re: So whos ordered the (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition?
Well i love mine to bits.
Although it does seem to have a colour shift in the paint, it never looks pink to me.
I like the exclusivity of the Red, and none of the other colours has grabbed me like the Red does.
If you prefer another colour, go for another one.
The black is more of a charcoal with a black clickwheel, but not in a bad way.
It has to be said that the Red is a slightly different colour than the previous Product Red, but i think this is a good thing.
This is the fourth Product Red Nano i have owned, and i will alwasy keep getting the Red because red is my own favorite colour.
I cannot big it up enough, but ultimately it's a personal thing. Do you like a red colour that can shift across the spectrum slightly depending on the available light? Then get the Product Red...
Are you afraid that people will see it in a certain way and question your manhood?
Then get a black one...
I like Red.
I'll keep getting them as long as they are available.

I actually saw the red up close for a couple of days, but forgot how it looked.

It did change colors, and I don't remember how I felt on the differences. Weird that it goes pink/red.

Manhood??? ;)

I will also say again that mine has never even looked like it's pink, but i spend more time listening to it than looking at it...

Well, if I were a man, I'm assuming I'd be secure also. :D

It's the hesitancy of purchasing a product I really don't need...actually thinking about engraving it too, but not too sure of the whole tilt factor. I never engrave my ipods since I upgrade so much.

# 34 Re: So whos ordered the (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition?
I see what you're saying. Then do you sell your used Nanos' on when you are getting a new one? If you do, i suppose it's best to get a more popular colour for the resale value.
It's true that Red is not to everyone's tastes. Especially this type of Red.
The best way to describe this red is like a metallic cranberry. It seems to actually be proper metallic(So the colour shifts depending on the angle the metal flakes are reflecting light waves), whereas the previous Nano was simply anodised Blood Red. Your eye can tell the difference between proper metallic and just plain anodised.
At least it seems that way to me...

I definitely can tell the difference in the two reds. That is an interesting idea to sell the old model to pay for the new one.
