Is it the iPod or the battery?

A bit more than 2 years ago I got my wife a 4GB mini-ipod. The battery had been working bad lately but a few weeks ago there was no way to turn it on. I plugged it to the charger and to the PC but I could not make it work. I pushed buttons but nothing worked out.

Is the iPod dead, or is it the battery? If I replace the battery, will I be able to give new life to the mini? Also, what battery would you recommend?

Thanks for your answers.

It should work via the charger no matter what state the battery is in I believe....what sort of charger have you got ?...via USB / firewire or wall AC socket ?....

You could always change the battery relatively inexpensively, just 'to see'...

Once the battery dies in an iPod Mini you will need to change it to be able to power the mini on.

I would have to agree that it is the battery.
