Is anyone not using a case?
I've been flirting with the idea of having my iPhone go "au naturel" because of the extra bulk and the fact that the cases make it harder to wipe the screen clean. The reviews indicate it's pretty durable, but I'm still hesitant. So, what do you think?
Chris.

I have been letting it go commando. For the most part that is because I haven't found a case I like best yet, and most accessory makers are putting out their first gen "get it on the market fast" versions. I want to buy something that I like and don't want to have to rebuy accessories. So far it has been working really well and is very durable.

I have used mine w/o a case since I purchased it. I now have a BSE on the iPhone and use the iPod slip case since it fits the iPhone. I found it easy to clean the phone and not use any other case since I haven't found one that will work for me.
# 3 Re: Is anyone not using a case?
I also use the iPod slip case, but am thinking about getting the iSee case.
anyone have any luck with it?

I carry mine during the day in a DLO hip case, but when I get home I take it out and use it around the house sans case. The iPhone is amazingly tough. Three weeks later and I don't have even the hint of a blemish on it.

well i have the belkin acrylic case and i hate it. its nice for watching videos since it has a stand on it bt since it is just one millionth of a centemeter too big the iphone just barely moves so if you get a speck of dust stuck in between it will scratch so i just leave it naked. the only scratches i have are on the stupid chrome lining which is where most of the rubbing from the case came from
# 6 Re: Is anyone not using a case?
I have a IS on it for now, i ordered the vaja ivolution and will be using that when it comes in. I agree with everyone here, the iphone is amazingly tough without a case, i had mine without the IS siince the 29th and it has no scratches on it watsoever, and i only put on the IS like maybe a week ago. I am happy apple finnaly realized there materials were very delicate and decided to go with something thats just as stylish and 4 gazillion times sturdier.

+1. The DLO is fine for getting to and from work via motorcycle and around the office. But when I get home she is naked, save for her protective screen film.
# 8 Re: Is anyone not using a case?
I'm not carrying a case. I never had had a cell phone in a case, and I don't want to increase the bulk of the iPhone. Obviously, I want to make sure the screen is protected, but so far, in 25 days, there are absolutely no scratches on the screen. Only thing that doesn't look just like the day I bought it is the silver ring around the screen, which has some small scratches, but I don't care about that. Everything else looks great!!

No case. No IS. No worries. Hakuna Matata.
Ordered an IS and it came in the week after launch. Not a scratch on the phone then and not a scratch on the phone now (save the chrome bezel). For the first time, I am going to return an IS for a refund.
Never thought I'd see the day. Love the IS on EVERYTHING. It's just not needed on the iPhone--screen or otherwise.
# 10 Re: Is anyone not using a case?
I bought my phone at launch and it mostly goes caseless. So far, not one scratch. I do often use an iPod sock when it's in my pocket, though.
# 11 Re: Is anyone not using a case?
This is good to hear - I'm going to give it a go without the case. I was thinking about the Vaja iVolution, for a minimalist approach, but started thinking that if I was going to have that little covering, why have any at all?
# 12 Re: Is anyone not using a case?
I also use the DLO hipcase which is quite nice and the best hipcase I've tried. But I ordered the Sena leather slipcase for other times when I want to put the iPhone in my pocket but also store it;

I hope you'll let us know how it works out. So far it seems to be the most minimal case out there.
# 14 Re: Is anyone not using a case?
Well, I've tried the iSee, the Case-Mate, the Incase Sleeve, and the DLO hip case.
In my view they all add unnecessary bulk and complexity.
That said, I did have the phone fall out of my shirt pocket the third day I had it and now it has a tiny dent on the back. A war wound!
There is a video on YouTube that PC World did about the durability of the iPhone -- in short, it's astounding. It really doesn't need a case, even with keys in your pocket.
I do have an a.b. sutton simple sleeve on order -- mostly because I love fine leather and their design is about as minimalist as you can get. I should get it soon and will post impressions then.
But from what I've seen so far, the cases aren't doing it for me. And I don't think, strictly speaking, that the iPhone needs one.
# 15 Re: Is anyone not using a case?
I go without a case, minus a crystal film set protector on the screen. Only scratches i have are on the chrome bezel area and on the back of my iPhone (no big deal).
# 16 Re: Is anyone not using a case?
There's something really nice about not even using a case; the iPhone is so thin it can fit in a pocket comfortably-either a shirt pocket, jeans pocket, jacket pocket, etc.
In the past, with iPods, Apple got some complaints that the front plastic scratced too easily and the mirror back metal also scratched way to easily on iPods.
But Apple fixed both these issues with the iPhone! The screen is glass and is nearly impossible to scratch, and the back is a brushed metal that is also not easily scratched.
Kudos to Apple.
I don't use a case except when I want to transport the iPhone (like when I want to put it in a bag or place it in my center console of my car. For this, I ordered this very slim slipcase which was only $9.00:
http://www.sfbags.com/products/iphonesuedejacket/iphonesuedejacket.htm
I'm very happy not using a case, because cases add bulk and part of the beauty of the iPhone is its slim-ness.
I also like the way it feels in my hand and would never consider putting one of those BSE skins on it that make it feel like rubber and look like plastic. I guess they protect well but they really make the iPhone look cheap.
# 17 Re: Is anyone not using a case?
Well, I did buy that nice Belkin one with the metal protector built in which clips on your belt. I use that for work but for everything else, it goes buck naked in my front left pocket (no keys or coins in there). I always carry a micro cleaning cloth too in the same pocket.
I did buy the screen protectors which the Apple store sells for them, and put them on both my iPhones. They went on quickly and easily with no bubbles and no dust. Whammo. Looks nice too and doesn't create drag for the fingertips. Maybe I needed it, maybe I didn't, but the price was right so what the heck?
I was ####ed that I scratched the apple on the back though. I put a piece of regular old clear mail packaging tape on the back which doesn't look that bad (really) and it serves to kind of elevate the iPhone ever so slightly off the desk. I've had it on a couple of weeks now and it still looks fine. I suppose eventually I'll have to replace it but I have a whole roll of that tape. :)
It's to purdy to hide with anything else.
# 18 Re: Is anyone not using a case?
My iPhone has been nearly naked since the day I got it. Put the back piece of an iPod video on the face for a few weeks, but took it off as the corners started to lift. Used it plain screen for two weeks but just put a Power Support (?) (sold in Apple store) shield on. I didn't have any scratches or anything with the screen naked, but it really picked up finger prints and face oil. The shield seems to reduce the smears on the screen and adds just a tiny bit of grab so the touch action seems better.
The chrome bezel and apple logo on the back have minute scratches, but that doesn't bother me. I use a cloth belt case I got for $7 at Sears. Sewed a tiny web pouch on the side (from an original 5 gig extreme mac case) for earbuds, sewed the bottom of the belt flap to the bottom of the case and put my MacAlly swivel mini dock connector there (inside a duct tape sleeve). I also attach my shuffle to the Craftsman logo piece on the back side of the case, just above the metal belt clip. All I need now is a mini shuffle usb connector and I can recharge or connect anywhere.
I'd love it if one of the companies that makes leather sideways cases would have a small space for earbuds and dock connectors and also keep the cover flap cut back a bit to access the volume rocker. Until someone makes one, I'll stick with my cheapo home brew.
BTW, remember the thin "cases" the 5th gen iPod videos shipped with? An iPhone fits inside nicely - though the case is just a few millimeters short, it would be a great protector for putting in a purse or briefcase.

I have been eyeing the Geekpouch - www.geekpouch.co.uk
Has anybody seen any of these?
# 20 Re: Is anyone not using a case?
Started with a case but now I just have a screen protector on.
