Got my iPhone today (UK)

I finally got it! Woooo! Activated & unlocked it and I absolutely love it. I have an InvisibleSHIELD on the front aswell to protect it from getting scratched. I've got it running on Orange. There are a couple of issues I have with it though:

- Whenever one of my contacts call me, it comes up with the contact name. However, when I receieve a text from that person, when it comes up with a new text received message box, it only displays the numer (for example +44 1234567890) but when I go into the SMS program it displays the name fine.

- Can't change the week starting day, it starts on a Sunday by default and I want it to start on a Monday but there isn't an option to change it.

- Can't seem to access UK shares on the Stocks program, only American ones.

So has anyone got any questions? Or advice to a new iPhone owner?

Where did you buy it and for how much ? was there anything particularly difficult that you had to do to get it calling out/in ?

I am waiting until November before I decide whether or not to buy one (as I want to make sure everything will work as it should and I have a guarantee)

but congrats on getting your early!!!

Got it on ebay for 275. Nope all I had to do was activate it and unlock it (click 2 buttons and tap the iPhone screen basically) and it all works fine. I'm very happy with it, it's a LOT smaller than I thought it would be.

I just hope Apple release an update that enables some key features like MMS and more customization settings for things like text messaging and calendar.

Was extremely easy. I paid 22 to unlock it as I read many people were having problems with the free unlocks and I didn't want to chance it. Basically you connect you're un-activated iPhone and click a button to activate and jailbreak it. Then click a button to install the unlock software on your iPhone. Then connect your iPhone to your wireless internet connection and tap the screen.

It really is that simple. I love my new iPhone :D

Mine is arriving with an American friend next week. I only have to pay him what it cost him, which was 220 ($400+tax) :D

I shall unlock it with a free method. Not sure what the OP meant about free versions causing problems...they use the exact same method as the commercial version.

- Run iBrickr to avtivate phone
- Once activated, use iBrickr to install anySIM (which is a free version of the one that costs 22)
- Run anySIM from the iPhone home screen....job done!

Then I can use my much-better existing o2 contract instead of the crap ones that will come when its launched in November.

So I get a 50 cheaper iPhone, 6 weeks before everyone else, and with a much better contract than everyone else......score :D.

Hmmm... well if it really is as easy as that I might just buy mine this way because I don't fancy being stuck in an 18 month 35 contract...

Perhaps those features will work when they release it in UK (At the latest) ?

And no warranty whatsoever or option to return to an Apple Store if anything goes a bit funky with it. Great deal indeed!

I was tempted but even if something Apple could fix goes wrong with it, I wouldn't be able to get it fixed except at great expense. I'll wait for a UK one and hacktivate that. Same price, ultimately, and completely covered by Apple. :)

The UK iPhone will have the latest firmware on it which might require extra work by the hackers to get activated, but I have no doubt it will be hacked eventually if not already. You also are NOT tied into the 18 month O2 contract when you buy the handset, no matter what else you're being told by anyone on here or at O2 (who haven't been trained on it and last week told me it doesn't even have a removeable sim card. Suuuuure.)

Also, an imported one will never ever be covered by Apple in the UK.

With every other portable Apple product covered by a worldwide warranty is that known for certain?

A lot of interesting questions that I would also like to know the answer to.

Specifically interested to know if the warranty is valid in the UK if the iPhone was bought in the US and about the stocks button, trying to access UK shares not US.

OK I just found a way to access UK shares on the iPhone, I just went to the UK Yahoo website on the iPhone, searched for Barclays (for example), then found the code BARC.L, and then typed it into the iPhone and it all seems to work fine. :D

Also I can't seem to find the settings for EDGE on Orange UK anywhere, so I'm not able to use it :(

no such thing as settings for edge. works automatically.
i thought orange had edge ? o2 edge will start later this year

no other provider in uk has edge

why dont't you call up orange an ask them if there is any special setting you need. just tell them you have bought a new phone outright. don't need to tell them which one :)
however, i don't think there is

i have a quick question. from what i've seen in order to unlock iPhone's using the current method they need firmware 1.0.2. apparently Apple are due to release 1.1.1 any time now.

my question is - is there another method to download and install version 1.0.2 to a new iPhone without using iTunes? because i am assuming that once 1.1.1 is released that will be all you can download from iTunes :(
