iPod Touch 32GB MacWorld in January or September?
I just want to wait for a 32GB iPod Touch, though I have literally 100GB more in my iTunes library, I can manage scaling down a bit. With 16GB, it would be too much, but what about 32? I can do that. So how long is it speculated to wait, a few months or a whole year? Speculate on the possibilities of:
1. Price drops (manufacturers of flash drives, in particular)
2. Significant improvements
3. Big update anticipation on that day, whether it is sooner or not.

Price drop is likely to occur in January if sales are bad. A 10-30 dollar would be reasonable.
The 32GB version is dependent on the price of NAND memories and I'm not expecting that version to be released between April-September next year.
Updated like improve battery, design and shape can be expected at earliest in Mars.
Don't forget that the iPod line up is a in a bad shape at the moment and competitors are coming up strong. So there is a chance that Apple might change the Touch earlier than expected.

I hope like hell they do...

I don't think we will see a 32GB update to the touch for another year sorry to say, I think the nano will get a 16GB model before the touch gets a 32gb model.
Apple might not want to push out a price change or price drop thanks to the crybaby early iPhone adapters...so I really don't think we will see a huge update in January if any at all.

Crybaby? Wow. Someone's quite the Apple fanboy today.

How often do NAND flash prices drop in the year, on average? From that speculation, I can assume what time of the year is most suitable for a 32 GB Touch launch.
# 6 Re: iPod Touch 32GB MacWorld in January or September?
blackhawk, I don't think flash has been around long enough for such assumptions especially as popularity of the technology keeps increasing and at the moment there is a shortage of NAND memory so prices are actually rising, though it does not seem that this rise is really reaching the consumer, and also if I recall correctly, most NAND memory out there is actually going into iPods.

Also remember: iPhone and iPod Touch use 2 gig NAND modules. We're looking for 4 gig modules of the same size and price to replace them in order to get to 32 gig.

Wait, I don't get what you're saying...
If each NAND Flash comes in sizes of 2 in iPhone, which means an 8 GB is 4 of those, then the iPod Touch has 8 2 GB's to make the 16 GB? That doesn't sound right. Unless I'm wrong, correct me here.

I doubt will see any 32GB until September next year. We may see a 16GB Nano and iPhone in January.

Not a fanboy or a hater, I just call it as I see it. The babies bought into the $600 hyped iPhone and seemed justified in their purchase, then the price lowers and suddenly they jump up and down throw a temper tantrum and apple gives them a reward for it. Absolutely ridiculous.

Anyone have an average to price drops in NAND Flash?

Okay, so it seems the prices are raising. And why is there a shortage of NAND flash? This is ironic, because the iPod Touch and iPhone are at such high production, and they complain of a SHORTAGE!
This does NOT tell me of a speculated time. You know technology, everyone, things get BETTER, not WORSE. Look at it a year ago, then. What's the average?

Anyone have an average to price drops in NAND Flash?
It's approximently one year. Just look at the Nano and similar devices. During the latest 3 years memory has doubled every year while the price has stayed the same.
Therefore we can expect a 32GB iTouch and 16GB Nano to hit the market some time around August next year.
Today:
iTouch 8GB: 2 x 4GB
iTouch 16GB: 2 x 8GB
That's usually the case with NAND memories. I doubt that there is a single 16GB module sitting inside the iTouch 16GB. But over all expect the 32GB version during the 3rd quater of next year.

The highest flash drive they've ever made (as an HD replacement) is 160GB of pure flash. Unfortunately it retails for $19,000 but the technology is getting there.
If the iPod Touch were to get 32GB I think it would end up costing the end consumer too much. As it is the Touch costs a lot for its capacity. I'd expect 32GB to run for around $6-700 which is way out of reach for a lot of people. It would be nice if they increased battery life and made some other minor tweaks though.

You know what would be nice?
Decent battery life.
Minor tweaks.
Opened for software developers.
Harddrive.
All of which would make it 9999% better and a lot cheaper than it is now.
But don't tell Apple that.

That 160GB drive was presented in February which a very long time ago in the computer world. Further more it was in the form of a 2.5 inch drive which makes it a whole lot more expensive. So you can't direct compare it to an iTouch on the market today.
With that being said a 32GB iTouch will sell for 399 dollars next year the same as a 16GB DAP today cost as much as one with 8GB did last year.
# 18 Re: iPod Touch 32GB MacWorld in January or September?
I would like to see at least a 32GB Touch by this time next year, but I'm not keeping my fingers crossed.
# 19 Re: iPod Touch 32GB MacWorld in January or September?
I think we're more inclined to see a 16GB iPhone before we'd see a memory increase for the Touch.
