A facelift for iTunes? What would you like?

Hey am I the only one who thinks the blue and white lines in iTunes look off? Do you think itunes will have a facelift in leopard and maybe get rid of this?
All the people who are good with photoshop go nuts!!!!!!

I don't mind the lines as much, but I think iTunes needs a whole new overhall (or at least for Windows! I means look at Windows Media Player 11 - that has a birlliant and beautiful user interface, whereas iTunes, in my opinion has a boring gray interface which looks quite ugly.

I know they wouldn't change the interface though, because it's too consistent with thier other stupid Mac OS X user interfaces...

They should maybe have a feature where you can change skins and people can make skins for it. What you guys think??

They need to rewrite the whole dang thing (Windoze version anyways), feels like an old 16 bit Real Mode application. It can only do 1 task at a time, and the interface pretty much shuts down while it's doing it.

Skins! whoa, whadda 21 century concept - NOT!

iTunes needs a black skin, which won't happen. It needs a lyrics finder, which is easy to do and possible, but Apple's been acting lame when it comes to iTunes as of lately.

iTunes is getting old now. It's had the same design for as long as I can remember, and it seriously needs a big rethink.

Why they don't add even something as simple as changing it to one of the 5 iPod colours, or having an iTunes music store option of purchasing a (Product) Red skin is beyond me.

Needs to be much more efficient/faster dealing with large libraries.

Smart Playlist needs to be more powerful. You shouldn't have to chain playlists for simple logic.

Ability to crossfade to a new song on demand..not just at the end of a song.

Auto BPM counter and beat synchronizer for custom mixes. Also see ability to crossfade above.

Make Cover Flow actually useful, somehow.

I think it needs a seperate little app for just syncing...the iTunes application is getting pretty bloated and there really isn't many features (that you would think) would cause such a increase of bloat.

The iTunes interface is getting pretty stale, they could make it a little bit more flashy.

Please don't list ideas of purchasing what others give for free. Apple *would* actually use that idea. :shake:

The thing with iTunes' bulk is that through for each model of iPod/iPhone, they add an extra bit of code to sync it, extra features for that specific product and cute little pictures as well. So basically, instead of loading what we need, it loads what the world needs, right back to the first generation iPod.

What Apple needs to do is have a plugin-like option for people to download their iPod/iPhone-specific data. This way the filesize of iTunes.exe will be significantly smaller, and so will the loading time for people with only one or two iPods.

Do you have any idea what (Product) Red is? Just handing it out for free won't really give people the satisfaction of knowing they've done something for the world.

Yeesh! No, we won't even touch that one.

I also want the visualizer to incorporate album art for the currently playing track.

I agree. Better visualizers would be great. That's probably the one area that WMP has iTunes beat. I'm not a big fan of third-party plug-ins either. I'm sure there are some for iTunes, but I'd rather Apple add them.

I want sorting of numerical/symbols to go back to the way they were.

The ability to play something in iTunes without adding it. Probably won't happen, but hey, it'd be one less reason to use WMP.

I agree with the visualizations, but I believe that Apple may have a black skin, due to the popularity of the black iPods and the iPhone, but you know Apple, they keep us guessing. As for me, I'd want to sort my library by artist, album, and the track # like in Media Monkey.

Apple never makes software black. I doubt they'll start with iTunes.

Yeah, but I never thought Apple would retire white from the iMacs and the iPods.

I don't have the problem with the way iTunes looks. Version 7 did change the way it looked for the better I think. I adore th way things are laid out, it's the reason I started using iTunes to begin with and the reason I eventually bought my first iPod.

But I do take issue with the way it functions in some regards.

My biggest beef is with video support. It feels tacked on.
1. Marking something as a TV show means you have less options when syncing to your iPod/iPhone. I hate the fact that if I only want to sync one of two episodes from a TV show, I have to delete the rest of the episodes from my library or mark those two shows as movies. The only options iTunes gives is to either sync every episode/season or only the "x" most or least recent. What if you want to grab a couple of episodes from season 3 out of 6 seasons? No luck.

2. There needs to be a way to mass mark videos as either TV shows or Movies. Having to do it one by one is a nightmare.

3. I'd like to be able to play video in the main window. Where coverflow shows up.

4. They need to smooth out video playback. Every time the camera switches angles I get a diagonal wipe across the screen that doesn't happen in other videos players. It's an annoying distraction.

I'm also really sick of not being able to sync my iPod with other computers without erasing it or using some dodgy 3rd party software. I don't know why Apple insists on doing things this way. Almost every other MP3/PMP out there lets you drag media files to it without erasing what is already there. No matter what computer you are on. Is this part of their deal with the record companies? It's incredibly annoying and I can't tell you how many times I've downloaded a podcast at my work computer and had to burn it to CD to listen to it in the car on the way home just because my iPod is synced to my home machine and and not my work machine. Putting that one podcast on would mean having to erase all 30gigs. It's absolutely ######ed.

Aside from these things I'm pretty happy. And I really don't know what other interface would better suit this type of software. I haven't seen anything else on the market that would. Otherwise I'd be using it.

That's a little different. iTunes follows Apples (at least to an extent) the global look and feel of the Mac OS. Unless the entire OS goes black, iTunes is going to stay as it is.
