And frankly, I hope that this doesn'r REPLACE the HD iPods.

Thought: heard of misdirection?

Something to think about.

It's interesting. iLounge is speculating that it's a replacement for the 5G and that it will represent a new iPod line between Nano and the 6G. We'll have to wait and see. Something seems off about that to me but stranger things have happened.

Is it legal for apple's legal department to tell sites to pull down stuff that is a mockup? I don't think so but I honestly have no idea.

There's nothing stopping Apple from threatening sites over anything they want. The legality only enters the picture if the site refuses to comply. The question isn't if it's legal but if the offending site can win a suit or not. Given Apple's billions, I doubt any of the rumor sites want to take a chance.

I agree with Surf Monkey in that something about the rendering doesn't seem quite right in that it feels rather underwhelming.

Apple's hardware usually has a very high cool factor and the rendering of the new iPod just doesn't seem as cool as when the Nano or the iPhones were introduced.

Could it be a red herring? Certainly. I think many folks in the forums hope so to keep their various dreams for the next iPod iteration alive.

But as Surf Monkey said, stranger things have happened.

I think its very possible for this to be a nano..I mean really has the iPod really changed in appearance since it was introduced? Hardly..just different sizes.

I hope a touchscreen comes to satisfy the fanatics, but I wouldn't be surprised if they waited in a touchscreen.

Creative just announced their 8-16GB flash based DAP with a 2.5 inch screen. Hmmm perhaps similar to what apple have planned?

Ugh, now I'm gonna be ####ed if they announce a 16GB nano next week..just got a 8GB thinking there isn't going to be a nano update for awhile. Oh Well..

You know what I meant smart ###, screen on the top..touch wheel in the center has been the name of the game on every single iPod since the beginning..There hasn't been any real physical changes to the product outside of colors and size changes.

Look at creative, near all of their mp3 players are different interface wise and software wise. iPods have been with the wheel and screen for all their lifes and barely any software changes.
