My PC doesnt recognise my video iPod anymore.

I used my video iPod normally, then my hard drive failed and I bought a new one, installed WinXP Home SP2 on it, installed iTunes, and plugged my iPod in -- but it says "USB device not recognised". I don't have the CD that came with my iPod anymore. What do I have to do to get it to recognise again?

Hello and welcome to iLounge. I guess I am a little confused, your computer's hard drive failed or your iPod's hard drive failed? It sounds like your computer's hard drive failed as you said that you installed Windows XP and iTunes, something you shouldn't do on the iPod's hard drive.

Anyway, you don't need the CD that came with your iPod, you just need the latest version of iTunes. Try using different USB ports and plug the iPod in the USB port with it powered on. iTunes contains the proper drivers for your iPod. You can also try resetting your iPod by pressing and holding the menu and center (select) buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo. This may take longer than 10 seconds so be patient. Resetting your iPod won't erase anything on your iPod and is the same thing as you restarting, you are just forcing the iPod to shut down and start back up again. Then plug your iPod into your computer with iTunes open.
