iPod Classic: No music!?
Ok, yeah, so today, I got my new 80GB iPod Classic (Black). I plugged it into my computer, which already had all the stuff (software, etc) for my 5G iPod video. Anywho, I use RealPlayer to transfer songs to my iPod; well, atleast I did (to my 5G).
Today, when I plugged in the iPod, and opened RealPlayer, the Apple iPod [I:/] button showed up again. So, I open it, and transfer all my music files to it (1262 MP3s). The first thing that bugged me was the time it took - I started around 11 PM, and it finished transferring at, about, 3.30 AM. However, I was too overjoyed to let something like that bother me. Now, when I eject my iPod, and go to Music, it says No Music. When I hovered over Settings, it says 65.2GB free (when there was nothing on it, the space was around 74GB).
Anywho, this is really annoying. I've tried installing iTunes, but it won't work on my system.
I've also formatted the iPod once, and tried adding some files. They transfer fine, but don't show up on the iPod.
What should I do?
Cheers,
ST

# 1 Re: iPod Classic: No music!?
Unfortunately, Apple is now adding a checksum (hash) to the database on the Classic. This was a clumsy attempt to keep people from using third-party applications to manage music on them.
Fortunately, the method of generating the checksum has been worked out and several third-party programs will now work. Perhaps you should check with Real Networks to see if their is an updated version of the program.
I recommend J. River Media Center (link) (http://www.jrmediacenter.com/). This one definitely works with the Classic. Also, some people recommend Media Monkey, though I haven't personally used it.
Hope this helps,
Rick
