iPod Classic and Logic3 i-Station - compatible?

I have a Logic3 i-Station (IP 106), and just got an 80g iPod Classic. The new iPod fits in the dock, but all i get is feedback through the speakers. If I connect the iPod to the speakers via a line-in cable, it works fine. Are these two incompatible? It seems odd that the new iPod's port would fit in the dock, but would output sound differently.
