Im an iPod moron re: moving music on and off
I recently got a 30g iPod video. I have had either a nano or mini for years. Previously, when I would want to move songs on or off my ipod, I would simply drag and drop or right click and copy/cut/etc.
Well, now that's not working for me. I initially set up my new ipod on itunes to sync with my library every time. Well, now I don't want it to do that.
One problem I have is that it syncs, then disconnects. It doesn't stay connected to let me work with anything on the ipod.
Anyhow, when I set it up, I set it up to sync, and then I got a TON of stuff I DONT want on my ipod, so I went in and unchecked the sync option, and it deleted ALL my music off the library.
Additionally, since it disconnects after syncing, it doesn't allow me to remove any music.
I guess my main problem is actually figuring out how to make it stay connected so that I can move music around? I would assume that would then allow me to drag and drop and/or delete music?

I have always chosen the 'manually manage music' option. With Itunes you cannot drag songs off the IPOD back onto the PC's hard disk. Yes u can drag from your library but as far as I know its only a one way thing.
U should check out a program called Sharepod. This will allow u to take the music off your IPOD and back onto the PC.
I do use Itunes to add my music, then I delete the music off my hard disk. Then I play my albums off my IPOD in Itunes. Once in a while I will make sure do to a full IPOD backup with sharepod on a external drive.
For random mp3's on my PC I just play them through winamp.
