Every 2nd song skipped on new Classic 80GB

I have an issue with my iPod Classic 80GB (bought one week ago) skipping MP3 files that are created by StationRipper, a software that can read MP3 streams and save each track with their individual name (when all tracks are put after each other in a playlist, the original stream can be listened to without any interruptions). I never had issues with the files from StationRipper up to now but the new iPod Classic apparently does not like them... :shake:

Once I start any song in the playlist with these files, it plays fine; but once it comes at the end, the next song will be skipped with a strange 'click' sound and then the next-next song will be started, until the same effect happens again at the end. So the iPod will play song 1-3-5-... and the stream is completely disturbed. However when I start the skipped song (song 2) directly it plays fine, end then the iPod will play song 2-4-6-...

So it looks like the iPod Classic has some difficulties with the encoding done by StationRipper, since the other MP3 files are working fine. Strange because one of the sales arguments of StationRipper is the seamless integration with iTunes... I am using the last version of StationRipper (2.84) and I checked with streamed files I had from earlier versions that give exactly the same effect.

The firmware update (1.0.1) did not change anything. :o

Anybody else having the same issue?

Further to my previous post here on issues playing 128Kbps files from internet radio stations, streamed via StationRipper, on my iPod Classic 80GB, I found a solution in converting each file via a batch converter first to WAV format and then back to MP3 format. After converting, any MP3 format will then play on the iPod without issues.

Apparently some MP3 encoders do not give very 'clean' results and then the iPod has difficulties to play the track. Conversion with a different MP3 encoder can then solve the issue. And in order to reduce the losses in the result, I encode my original 128Kbps files with higher bitrates (160Kbps or 192Kbps). The final size does not matter too much because anyway my Classic 80GB has a lot of storage place. Only it would be more convenient when this conversion operation would not be necessary! Hopefully there will be a software upgrade to make the iPod less 'picky' for its MP3 files...

This sounds more like a StationRipper issue and not a iPod issue. Do you know what mp3 encoder StationRipper uses? If they use their own then their encoder could be the problem, if they use either FhG or Lame then it sounds like their software is doing something wrong during the encoding process. Can you save to any other file type besides mp3? Either way, you should shoot StationRipper an e-mail and tell them that their files do not work with the iPod classic.
