iPod classics dont intergrate with car headunits now?

I am installing a Pioneer Avic-D3 on Saturday, I found it to be the perfect head unit due to it's seamless iPod integration...I did not have an iPod so I picked up an 80gig Classic today, I have heard from tons of places that the integration hardly works now on MANY head units, including Pioneer, Alpine, Clarion, Eclipse, Kenwood, etc. Before, you were able to scroll through videos and watch them THROUGH the head units since it synced up with one cable that provided audio, and video.

Now I'm hearing you can't view videos through it, and that the integration controls don't even work...what exactly did Apple do to mess all of this up, and should I wait for an update, or should I return this new "classic" and try to find a 5.5g before they are all gone?

This device is pretty much useless to me if I can't use it in my car, and I can only imagine how angry other people are going to be when their iPod dies and they have to buy one of these newer ones and they find out that the "iPod integration" no longer works.

My USA-SPEC PA11 nissan (Infiniti) adapter works great. YMMV

Does your "adapter" intergrate so that you can control your iPod via your headunit and also play videos through ti as well as scroll through all of your artists, etc?

No, it is not as advanced. It offers the following:

-Direct Mode - (control next, prev track, seeking, power to ipod) while retaining the iPod Controls

-Playlist Mode - will playback from 5 different playlists on the iPod (lame).

I use in direct mode and all controls work just fine.

The video issue you mention is most likely due to the new authorization chip that Apple is enforcing in the video cables/dock. Without the video auth chip, a lot of video products don't work with the Classic (although companies that worked with Apple to create their video interfaces do have the proper chip and work just fine).

This is more of a consequence of Apple tightening up their 3rd party control.
