5G iPod Connectivity/Freezing Issues

Hi, I'm relatively new to these forums, but I'm hoping I'll find a solution here because if I don't I'll probably pay to get it fixed.

So... I have a 5G original 30GB Video iPod, got it about 9 months ago.

Stats:

Songs: 1283
Videos: 21
No Photos
Capacity: 27.8 GB
Available: 18.6 GB
Version: 1.2.1
S/N: 8M648U5TV9M
Model: MA446LL

Have album art, albums, artists for most of my songs. Kind of a perfectionist, I know. >_<
No past troubles with USB cord, iTunes, syncing, charging, etc.

A list of the problems-

1) Whenever I physically disconnect the USB cord and the iPod from my computer it freezes and lags, and the charged plug symbol appears in front of the battery gauge. On some occasions it does work (not for long), but when I turn it off, the charged symbol appears on the whole screen with the backlight off, causing it to lose power. Sort of the reverse of the problems in which other people are having with their computers freezing when their iPods are attached.

2) If I eject the iPod with the USB cord still attached to a computer with its power turned on, the iPod works as if it's brand new.

3) A weirder problem- if I leave the iPod attached to a computer that is NOT turned on or being charged, it works perfectly, and the charged symbol disappears.

4) Sometimes my iPod doesn't respond to iTunes and instead shows the charging sign instead of the "Do Not Disconnect" sign. In this case I just reset it and it works but it really annoys me.

I've reset it a couple billion times and restored it to its factory settings about 5 times now, restoring sort of works but once I charge my iPod, it goes back to its old ways. Is there any way to fix these problems without paying to get it fixed because it's my last resort...

Hope someone posts, I'd LOVE feedback.
